Flying Start are committed to conserving the environment and encouraging the children to take some responsibility in this.
- All centres have gained their Bronze Award from Eco-Schools.
- All toilets have hippos and hogs and we now save a swimming pool full of water every year!
- We are replacing with low wattage light bulbs
- One of our centres uses recycled grey water for loo flushing
- We us Eco-Tricity where possible, and follow the theme of :
- Reduce – Re use – Recycle
- We now have a TLC training course on Reduce Reuse Recycle
- We have vastly reduced paper and ink by moving to electronic child records, electronic billing and now use the cloud for security, GDPR and for much document storage.
- We photocopy double sided or onto A5 where possible
- We use reduced size paper towels for children’s hands
- We use old tyres and old wellies as planters
- We use local Scrapstores where possible
- We use old boxes and cartons for junk modelling
- We’ve moved away from plastic toys and equipment to wood
- We have a Grow It Cook It and Eat it initiative
- Some centres run childrens clothes swapshops
- Excellent Resources pack
- Some of our centres use these excellent recycling schemes
- We are members of the Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Nurseries scheme
