Our Healthy Workplace Pledge

“Flying Start Nurseries believe that as the workplace is where many people spend a large proportion of their time, we can therefore play a key role in contributing to the physical and mental health of our team and in turn the health of the organisation. ”

Sharon Cowburn, Managing Director, signed the Time to Change pledge in front of her management team and presented it to all staff in early 2016 and re-signed it in 2019.

A Focus Group now meets regularly to develop a range of initiatives to impact the well-being and resilience of our staff, customers and children.

All staff have been offered a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course (Level 2) and we are delighted that 35 staff, approximately a third of our team, have completed it.

In addition, the Managing Director is a qualified MHFA trainer and 5 senior members of staff have completed the accredited 2 day MHFA first aider course.

We continue to demonstrate our commitment to treating mental and physical health equally

This initiative is being led by the Directors with support from the management team and the involvement of all staff. Below is a wide ranging list of resources, if we don’t have what you are looking for then please let us know and we will add extra resources into this tool-kit.

Staff Voice

We have launched a new way of all staff having their say and their opinions being represented to the Senior Management Team regularly. You can also raise issues of health with people who understand.

Having asked for volunteers, I am delighted to say that we have two brilliant representatives:

Shelley James in the West on staffvoicewest@flyingstart.uk.com or

Sarah Lazarus Foster in the East on staffvoiceeast@flyingstart.uk.com
