Flying Start @ Penryn and their Growing Competition!

Flying Start @ Penryn have started a growing competition!

This started at the start of the half term, after parent feedback suggested we have more things growing in the garden… which we really liked the sound of.

So we launched a growing competition that started between each departments, but since then has travelled home, in every room and in the garden!

We have planted flower seeds, sunflower seeds, carrot seeds and cress seeds.

The babies have had their Dad’s and Grandad’s in to nursery to plant with them, in a growing themed stay and play, whilst the other departments have been keeping track of their growing by measuring it and recording what they find.

The children water their plants every day and are starting to see the growth!

The sunflower which were planted a while ago at nursery are starting to grow really tall in the garden, but no sightings of yellow petals yet!

And the babies sunflowers are home we are being informed via email updates are growing away (with some very competitive Dad’s using tomato feed!!)!

All in all the growing competition as provided a fantastic learning adventure for the children in all departments, and also showing a caring nature in remembering to water and get sunlight for the plants.

We are now looking to plant aubergines, pumpkins and winter vegetables.. if you can be of any help please please let the nursery know as the staff’s fingers aren’t yet accustomed to the green life!
