Safe Sleep Reassurance

You may have seen the recent news sharing the best advice and updating requirements for safe sleeping for babies and young children, this has always been a priority at Flying Start Nurseries.
To help reassure you we just wanted to remind you that:
  • When babies go to bed we remove their outer clothing, jumpers and hoodies, bibs, dummy clips and anything too tight on their necks
  • We check the room temperature and make sure it is a comfortable temperature between 16-20 degrees
  • We place babies on their backs with their feet at the bottom of the cot
  • We allow the use of well fitting sleeping bags if parents want to supply them
  • We check their temperature, breathing, and general wellbeing regularly and record these checks
  • Older babies or children may sleep on a sleep mat, if so, they are constantly supervised by a qualified staff member
We are making a slight change to our procedure and will be resharing our policy with parents via the app, but to let you know, if babies under a year fall asleep on a walk we will always transfer them from the pram to a cot as it is safer. If children aged over 1 fall asleep in our prams, if possible we will lay the pram flat and remove/open outer clothing on their return to the setting closely supervising them sleeping.
We have made this watertight in our procedure and policy to make sure safe sleeping is always thought about!
If families need any advice or support, talk to baby staff in the nursery and take a look at The Lullaby Trust.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Autumn Crafts

This week @ Flying Start Cornwall College we have been celebrating Autumn and Halloween in lots of creative and sensory ways!
The children have enjoyed using autumn leaves to paint and print on drawings of pumpkins, hedgehogs, and trees, exploring all the lovely colours and textures of the season.
We also had great fun with our pumpkin sensory tray — everyone loved scooping out the seeds and using tweezers to pick them up, helping to strengthen those fine motor skills!
Continuing our autumn theme, the children took part in some wonderful observational drawings of pumpkins and pine cones, looking carefully at their shapes and details.

Flying Start @ Redruth Children in Need

For children in need this week we have been making Pudsey bear masks! We used sponges to paint the paper plates before letting them dry and colouring on the bandana and cutting out the eye!
We have also been making Pudsey bookmarks for our reading challenge and Pudsey listening ears! We have used these to go out into the garden to listen to what we can hear.
In addition to this we’ve made Pudsey short bread biscuits and painted Pudsey, using cotton buds to paint the spots onto his bandana.

Flying Start @ Marjon Painting

The babies at Marjon have been exploring the paints using different objects to paint with. They have been collecting leaves, sticks, and making different marks with them.

Flying Start @ Redruth Mark Making

This week in Preschool we have been exploring different ways to make marks, we collected objects from around the garden and found different ways to make marks such as printing, scratching, and rolling.

Flying Start @ Camborne Flora’s Mini Explorers

We are excited to launch our ‘Flora’s Mini Explorers!’

This is an opportunity for the children to explore and learn about nature whilst outside with their key person. This week we have been learning all about Harvest.

We explored lots of vegetables that are harvested at this time of year, looking at the shape/size and textures.  We loved the way the vegetables rolled so added some guttering, it was so much fun.

We added tractors and diggers to learn our new harvest song too.

Flying Start @ Redruth Balancing

In Preschool this week the children have been helping us to re-arrange the garden to make our construction area larger! Once it was all moved and arranged, we practiced balancing on our new logs!

Flying Start Celebrate The Queens Jubilee

All of our settings had such fun celebrating The Queens Platinum Jubilee last week. From celebratory lunches to garden parties, everyone got in the spirit and had a great time.

Flying Start @ Camborne Stay and Play

We had a wonderful afternoon stay and play session, full of Easter crafts and adventure, followed by a Easter egg hunt and cream tea in the garden!

Thank you to everyone who attended!

Flying Start @ Redruth Celebrate World Book Day

To celebrate world book day some the children came to nursery dressed as their favourite book character or brought in their favourite book from home! We celebrated books by reading inside & outside as well as participating in some book themed activities.

To help celebrate World Book Day we have been working closely with the National Literacy Trust to support children’s literacy development. They have kindly developed a fun Passport Quest which we will now be sending home with each child and can’t wait to see how the children & parents get on completing the tasks & what their prize is at the end!
