Flying Start @ Cornwall College Find Icy Shapes Outdoors!
The preschool department @ Flying Start Cornwall College noticed how cold it was outside on their way into nursery and went outside to see what surprises the weather had left them over night….
The children discovered ICE of all different shapes, sizes and thickness!
They brought it in side very carefully to not break it and got it into their sensory tray ready for some real investigation…
The children used magnifying glasses to identify any hidden bits in the ice which helped them to guess where it had formed, they found bark chippings, soil, blades of grass and even a leaf stuck in it. They helped the ice to melt by holding it in their warm hands…which quickly got rather chilly!
They broke parts of the ice off to feel the difference in thickness and then listened to why it was thicker and how more water freezing caused this.
The children are going to be extra vigilant throughout the week and leave some things in the garden to see if they freeze over night into ice shapes!
