This week we’ve been scientists @ Flying Start Cornwall College
On Monday we explored colour transfer. We filled up 4 cups with coloured water and divided them up with plastic cups. Then we put kitchen roll in each cup and watched as the colours moved up the kitchen roll. After a couple of hours the empty cups started to fill with water from the kitchen roll.
On Tuesday we made rainbows using skittles and water. We arranged the skittles into a circle around the plates and then added hot water. We watched as the colours ran, discussing how the hot water had melted the sugar coating.
On Wednesday we made volcanoes by mixing coloured bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We spoke about how the acidic vinegar reacts with the soda and causes it to fizz and bubble up.
On Thursday we carried out our germ experiment. In a tray we sprinkled glitter, and this acted as our germs. Then we stuck our finger into hand soap, and then into the middle of the germs and watched as they ran away. We spoke about the importance of washing our hands with soap to get rid of the germs.
On Friday we experimented with oil and water. We used pipettes to drop water into the oil to see what happened.
