Flying Start @ Duchy Host An Amazing Craft Week!
The whole nursery at Flying Start @ Duchy have had a ‘Craft Week’, where they focused all their activities on creativity all week, and rounded off with a big natural craft event on Friday!
The children have been having a go at using natural resources such as pine-cones, leaves, sticks and flowers to create their very own environmental art pictures based on the work of Andy Goldsworthy, – which is also known as ‘transient art’!
They also set up a full ‘Hapa Zome’ station, which is the Japanese art style where you use hammers with natural objects to beat out the colour pigments! The children had so much fun exploring this very interactive art style!
They used leaves, berries, and flower petals between 2 pieces of cloth, then they put on their safety goggles, and got to work with their hammers to bash the cloth… there was so much excitement as the colours began to release into patterns!
Next up, the children used willow branches to weave – they used their imagination to twist the branches into shapes, creating bracelets, magic wands, an aeroplane, and one child even made their own race track!! Wow!
Finally, they created some colourful weaving boards using ribbons and jute string. And even made their very own giant 3D Flying Start FLORA logo!!
What amazing creativity, and so many exciting unusual art activities for the children to explore!
