The child have been out on a trip to the local post office to get some information on what happens at a post office, where you can post letters and what you need to do this!

They bought a postcard, wrote it, bought a stamp and posted it back to themselves at nursery!

This has helped the children to link their play to real life experiences, remembering they need to use money to pay in the post office and needing a stamp to make sure the post gets to where it needs to go.

The children also visited a shop to buy a loaf of bread, using money again and counting out how much money was needed before taking the bread back to nursery with them!

The children now have a shop and post office role play at nursery to play in, posting letters and buying groceries from each other.

They are starting to count out money, learn the paying concept and using words like more and less.

Try giving your child the pennies in a shop and encourage them to ‘buy’ ‘pay’ and ‘count’!!
