Flying Start @ Penryn’s Explore Sensory and Construction Play… Together!
The children in the toddler department have been learning about the story Handa’s Surprise and reading it lots.
They then played with the animals from the story in the sensory tray with hay and dry materials like in the book, making the animals stomp around, make noises and eat their dinner!
The children then added lots of brightly coloured blocks and bricks and have started to build homes for their animals… some are small and some are very tall for the giraffe’s neck to fit into!
From simply exploring the animals in the dry sensory materials the children have developed some fantastic learning using their physical skills to build and balance, their mathematical skills to think about the size and shapes the animals need and also thinking about the world and what is out there beyond their usual experiences!
WOW! What a lot of learning in the Toddler Room!
