Flying Start @ Cornwall College Babies Exploration and Experimentation!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College have been using their exploratory impulses in the baby department!

Provided with lots of open ended play opportunities or new and interesting activities the children have been exploring and experimenting, learning through their play.

From heuristic collections, to risk taking, sensory exploration, experimenting with sounds and physical challenges the babies have enjoyed uninterrupted play, which encourages the children to develop their characteristics of learning. Focusing on exploring, problem solving and experimenting with objects to achieve and develop their thinking skills has been an exciting time.

You could try this at home… provide a collection of normal everyday objects for your child and allow them to explore them and play with them as they wish! It really can be as simple as that! Then observe what they do, note if they use the object for its purpose (for example a saucepan to role-play cook), or fit objects together, explore the sounds through banging and shaking or add to the collection themselves! Any observation can help to understand your child’s characteristics of learning and which characteristics help them to naturally have effective learning through play, share with your key worker and they will help link it to the EYFS document!
