Flying Start Managers joined together last week at Porthpean Education Centre!
The managers were there for an unusual start to the morning where they had an icebreaker activity with WackaTubes… Making beautiful music of course!
The two teams were rated on their performances, and of course ‘constructive’ feedback was provided!!
Then the managers explored some different management techniques and styles, identifying strengths and weaknesses in staff and exploring ways to strengthen and support their teams and nurseries. Performance grading and the differences between managing and leading were all topics of the morning, and a lot was taken from it by all to further develop their managing style and continue to strive within their individual nurseries!
After the morning’s meeting the managers were put up to a challenge! In teams they had to build a raft, follow a map, kayak to specific points to find different objects hidden in the water, at heights up cliffs, through natural rock archways and attached to buoys! Of course all of this was being observed by Sharon and Steve with questions being floated like… ‘is there a clear leader? does their need to be a leader? are you able to promote each others skills?’ Whilst of course it was also an occasion to have lots of fun and enjoy a challenge of a different kind!
Then the two teams were in a race against time to use all of the objects they had collected during their kayaking adventures to build a flag pole the highest flag flying would win whilst the team enjoyed a freshly made brew and a cake!
With this specification the teams got to work….
One team split their team with half making the device to heat, boiling the water and creating several cups of tea whilst the other half built their flag pole!
While the other team got their water boiling then all starting building together…. This team got the highest flag! However the winners were the team above! Dani, Shelley, Gemma and Lucy who were enjoying their nice warm cup of tea before the others!
Welldone All!
Flying Start nurseries all came together last week with every centre’s team leaders joining together for a day away from their normal nursery routines!
The team leaders were taken on a day out, to engage initially in training tasks promoting effective team leading and management techniques and then developing to an action packed afternoon to encourage team building skills and reflection!
Have a look below to see what they got up to….
Building trust, providing direct instruction and working through a challenge!
Facing fears, having motivation and some active positive thinking and supporting each other when they most needed it!
What a brilliant day for all team leaders, a training event to further develop their skills and abilities in leading our Flying Start teams but also a day away from the setting as a well done for all of their hard work and time for reflection but also forward thinking for the next academic year!
Thankyou to all team leaders who really did throw themselves into it and use the opportunities to challenge themselves!
Flying Start @ Camborne spent last Saturday with the children, parents, staff, friends and a very special visitor!
The nursery opened up for a Summer Fun Day and Preschool Leavers Party!
With beautiful weather it was the perfect afternoon to wish the preschool children good luck for big school in September, and a little graduation ceremony with a very apt cap and gown in Flying Start blue only added to the occasion!
Then there was lots of fun to be had, with face painting, outdoor games for parents and children, cake sales, tombolas and stalls.
Finally as you can see above there was a very special visitor to top off the afternoon! Miss Oink (very like a certain Miss Peppa!) arrived for fun in the sun! She met with the children, high fived them on their achievements and even joined in with the fun day!
Thankyou to all who came, we hope you had as much fun as us!
Flying Start @ Camborne draw Belgium!
Although from the last 8 teams Belgium didn’t manage to hold on too long, the children and staff at Camborne had a fantastic time exploring Belgium and learning new facts about a different country.
The children have painted flags, created the official Belgium mascot Fuleco, and even made their very own take on the world cup!
Well done Camborne nursery!
Flying Start @ Camborne have recently been conducting parent questionnaires.
To find out valuable information to help the nursery plan forward in following terms, meeting suggestions of areas of improvement from our customers.
The results were truly outstanding and a pleasure to read – so thank you!
Flying Start @ Camborne celebrated Father’s Day and National Book Week by welcoming the special men in their children’s lives in to the nursery to explore their new story of ‘Stick Man’ by Julia Donaldson!
The Dad’s, Grandad’s and Uncle’s came along to play in the garden with the children and then finish the afternoon with a big group story session kindly read by the visitors!
Thankyou to all of the Special Men that came to play!
Flying Start @ Camborne have been baking, decorating, dancing, singing and partying away to celebrate Cynthia’s 65th Birthday!
Thankyou Cynthia for your ongoing hard work, fun, play, singing, stories and never ending friendship to all the children and staff at Camborne, and wishing you a very Happy Birthday!
Flying Start @ Camborne have been getting logical recently learning in the areas of ICT and Mathematics!
The preschool children have been focusing on using their fine motor skills and pincer grips to sort, organise and categorise resources. The preschoolers have been identifying by size, colour and shape and the creating groups to show their findings.
In this photograph you can see a little girl sorting compare bears into rows (in a lovely nursery uniform!).
The toddlers have been exploring new ICT equipment in the nursery. Using the buttons to create an effect on the ladybird, and then watching the ladybird follow their instructions such as moving forward, left or right.
What an interesting way to challenge the children’s thinking and problem solving skills learning through their logical play!
Flying Start @ Camborne have been using an ELFs pack which is sent from the fire safety service, relevant to the early years age group to teach the children all about keeping safe. The pack covers road safety, personal safety and fire safety and uses friendly characters to teach the children the important rules!
The children at Camborne Flying Start were very fortunate to then have a visit from the fire engine!
The preschool children could ask questions to further their knowledge and also managed to get Amy to dress up in the fireman’s outfit! The children could see how big and heavy the equipment was so that it kept the firemen safe, and could use what they see to further understand the important job the firemen had in putting out fires to keep people safe.
Thankyou to Camborne Fire Station!
