And lots of shiny tissue, paper, glitter and sparkly things were used to create beautiful light pictures celebrating Fireworks Night and Diwali!

Next the babies will be exploring play dough scented and coloured with different things… and hopefully some exciting winter themed snow sensory!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Pumpkin Art..

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Pumpkins in Preschool!

The children explored some unusual pumpkins this week…

Funny shapes, colours, patterns and markings…

The children made some very good guesses at what they were, with one child asking if the green one was a ‘giant cucumber’ and another little girl asked if it was a ‘butternut squash’!

When the children found out they were pumpkins they discussed the differences and similarities to the ‘normal’ pumpkins!

Describing what they could see the children then did some observational drawing…

Wow! What a good job!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Dough Disco!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Toddlers have been developing their fine motor skills… disco style!

Recently the staff have been on ‘Finger Gym’ training and have put this into action with the toddlers…

collegeblog

Firstly the children make the play dough, then they start some finger gym activities…

These really help to develop fine motor control, skills and concentration levels!

This week the activity has been a ‘Dough Disco’! The children hold onto their playdough balls and listen to the music.. following their grown ups lead they use the play dough in time with the music!

Shaking it, rolling it, squeezing it, poking it, stretching it and using our hands whilst having a dance!

What a great way to develop hand strength which will help with writing control, cutlery control and lots of other fine motor activities.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Babies Explore…

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s youngest babies are keen explorers!

The Under 1’s have been investigating some new heuristic collections.

Tummy time gets so much more exciting with interesting objects just in reach…

Sparkly materials, pine cones, soft fabrics and glittery materials all help to catch the babies eyes and gain their attention, this then means they can start to develop their physical strength in their core, neck and arms reaching forwards to touch and grasp objects!

We are aiming for regular new heuristic collections to ensure our babies remain keen explorers!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Find Shapes Outdoors!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College have been out enjoying the Autumn weather on lots of Nature Walks!

The toddlers took some paper and crayons and looked for different surfaces they could do rubbings on…

CC blog CC

They found that different textures such as a smooth rock, or the bumpy bark on a tree gave them different marks on the paper!

Then they found some shapes on signs…

And got some fantastic marks on the paper!

Really making the connection between the markings on the stone and then the effect the crayon made on top of these markings on the paper!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Babies have tried alternative mark making!

They even started to mix the colours by using the swatters in the different coloured paints and seeing the effects on the paper…

This was a great way to be physical and expressive with some gross motor movements and paints!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Babies Windy Fun…

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s outdoor baby shakers catch the wind to swoosh and swish!

Using milk cartons with multi coloured ribbons attached they are the perfect size for their little hands to hold and move around with!

They watched the ribbons fly through the air and swoosh in different directions, and tried exploring shaking them as well as changing the direction of them.

Why don’t you try making these at home for your child to have fun in the garden?!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College ‘Wear It Wild’ for WWF!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Raise Awareness and Funds for the World Wildlife Foundation!

The children and staff expressed themselves in animal fancy dress and face paints and had a day full of animal and wildlife activities.

The babies made animal footprint pictures from potato printing and painting, explored soil and spaghetti pretending it was worms and enjoyed jungle noises and singing!

The toddlers and preschool, made animal masks, read animal stories, their gym club was animal themed with lots of slithering like a snack and aping around! And then made lots of cakes and biscuits for their cake sale.

The children also learnt new key words in preschool like: ‘specie’ and ‘extinct’ , and used fact books and the internet to learn how to care for animals and the planet!

Thankyou to all families, children and staff who joined in the fun and raise some important funds to help look after the planet!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Babies Parachute Fun!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s babies enjoy physical activities in the hall!

The babies use the large hall space in the nursery regularly for physical activities, soft play, slides and this week also parachute fun.

CC babies

The staff controlled the parachute and the babies enjoyed running under the parachute and out the other side, arms in the air trying to catch it and ducking down small again trying not to get caught!
