Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Babies At Snack Time!

The older babies have been starting to develop their independent skills at snack time and meal time, starting to drink without a lid on their cup and even help with preparing their food…

From peeling their bananas…

The children mixed up their paints getting it to a sticky consistency before getting their shapes,

Then they combined their shaped with the paint using them as stampers, recognising the shapes and starting to join them together through their stamping to create interestingly shaped structures on the paper!

With some fantastic efforts…

image_pract_161 image_pract_98

The children had a day of story themed activities, in the baby room they read lots of stories naming some key items or characters that they could see and also set up a teddy bears picnic where they made porridge for their 3 bears!

image_pract_160

In the Toddler Department they made a very LARGE and HUNGRY Caterpillar from junk modelling and painted and collaged on it before acting out the story eating its way through lots of snack!

And in Preschool they had some special ‘big children’ in from Pool Academy and shared their favourite stories with their new reading partners! They also went out on a Bear Hunt in the Garden and focused their role play around their favourite stories with some fab acting!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Buy Their Groceries!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Go Shopping!

The preschool children have set up a Fruit and Vegetable Shop Roleplay recently and have been using it to develop their imagination based on their first hand experiences of going shopping.

They have been developing their awareness of all different fruit and vegetables and then make marks to ‘write’ their shopping lists, get a bag and then use their list to fill up! They have started talking about what they can make with their produce and how it helps make them healthy!

Last week the children went to Tesco’s to buy their fruit and vegetables for the role play corner…

1 (6) 1 (4)

Using their checklists they ticked off what they could find in Tesco’s,

1 (1)

Weighing their fruit and vegetables in scales and counting out how much they needed to buy..

1 (24)

Before using the self scanners, waiting for the beep, bagging it correctly (this took some practice!) and then counting out their money!

This was really good practice and helped to inform the children of how to play in the roleplay back at nursery, as well as helping to restock the shelves!

Next the children are going to plan their own recipes using their shop to stock up the ingredients!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Fffffrozen Fingers!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Find Icy Shapes Outdoors!

The preschool department @ Flying Start Cornwall College noticed how cold it was outside on their way into nursery and went outside to see what surprises the weather had left them over night….

1 (15) 1 (16)

The children discovered ICE of all different shapes, sizes and thickness!

They brought it in side very carefully to not break it and got it into their sensory tray ready for some real investigation…

1 (18) 1 (22)

The children used magnifying glasses to identify any hidden bits in the ice which helped them to guess where it had formed, they found bark chippings, soil, blades of grass and even a leaf stuck in it. They helped the ice to melt by holding it in their warm hands…which quickly got rather chilly!

They broke parts of the ice off to feel the difference in thickness and then listened to why it was thicker and how more water freezing caused this.

The children are going to be extra vigilant throughout the week and leave some things in the garden to see if they freeze over night into ice shapes!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Babies Feed Their Bears…

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Baby Department have been developing their imagination… through sensory play!

image_pract_308 image_pract_311 image_pract_312

The children started by mixing water and oats, using their hands or spoons and practicing pouring and stirring themselves.

This children seemed to really enjoy the feeling of the oats getting wet and mixing them with their fingers!

image_pract_316 image_pract_315 image_pract_314

Then the children got their favourite teddy bears and had a picnic!

They used the spoons (or sometimes the saucepan when the bear was really hungry!) to feed the bears and give them their breakfast.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Forest School!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Toddlers Go On Weekly Forest Visits!

The children go down to the woods to explore the natural environment, learning about the weather and the changes the weather has to the environment.

GetAttachment (6) GetAttachment (7)

The Toddler’s also explore the curriculum through the outdoors, this means they still focus on shapes, counting, listening to sounds, developing their language from what they can see and hear around them and of course getting creative in the forest!

Here you can see the children on a bug hunt and then making pictures with sticks and leaves!

This little girl has made a reindeer with her objects she found.

Keep your eyes peeled for more Forest School updates!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Christmas Event!

Flying Start  @ Cornwall College spread some Christmas spirit last week!

The children at the nursery invited their parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends in to the nursery to get a little bit festive!

The children sang some Christmas songs to get the afternoon started!

Then the family and friends of the nursery got stuck in to Christmas crafts…

From decorating Rudolph biscuits, making Christmas Crackers with gifts inside, using ginger bread playdough to make little people, and  mixing and moulding with snow dough it was a very busy afternoon!

Everyone enjoyed mince pies, stolen and yummy Christmas treats!

Thankyou to all who attended to hear the children sing and get involved!
