The pre-school department at Flying Start @ Duchy have been focusing on the learning theme of holidays and travelling…
The children have been talking lots about the various modes of transport they have been on, and then discussing trips to the beach, trying to describe every thing they can remember about going to the beach!

The babies at Flying Start @ Duchy have been enjoying some fantastic Babbling Babies sessions!
 They have been using sensory bottles to practice their listening & do some music making… They have been making sounds and listening to the different ways the different sensory bottles sound as they shake them and move them!

The babies have also been exploring different textures… They particularly enjoyed exploring noises with the water trays, pushing their hands around and splashing the water loudly!

They also listened as the water splashed out of a cup – splish splosh! The children also explored the water with animals in it, which made lots of great splashing noises!

The toddler deparment at Flying Start @ Helston have been getting busy making their own play-dough… the staff measured out the quantities, and the children helped mix up all of the ingredients together, to create a big ball of sticky play-dough!

Then the children rolled it into little balls, and everybody had a go at doing this, using their hands and rolling pins…

They then added colourful sticks to add arms and legs to their play-dough, making dough animals! Some of the children even added spikes to their animals… grrr!

The pre-school and toddler children at Flying Start @ Duchy have been enjoying special trips to the childcare department on the Duchy College campus!

The children have been going to visit the childcare department, where they enjoy and explore activities set out by the college students for the children to take part in!

The students set out exciting things for the children to play with, such as messy activities, role play areas, and story sessions, which is fully supervised by Flying Start staff.

The toddler department at Flying Start @ Saltash have been exploring the storybook Goldilocks and the Three Bears!
They have been telling the story, and acting it out by role-play feeding their bears some porridge…

The pre-schoolers at Flying Start @ Helston have been making rainbow cups!

 The children each took a cup, and placed two cotton wool balls for clouds, and then used straws of all the different colours that are in the rainbow!

They bent the straws into a semi-circle shape to create the bend for the rainbow, and secured them in place…

The children at Flying Start @ Duchy have been doing lots of learning and exploring outdoors during their regular trips into the forest for Forest School!
The children have been enjoying fun activities such as hunting for and collecting lots of sticks and twigs to make big shapes and pictures on the floor…

… Going on adventures and crossly safely over bridges…

… and craft activities like making bark rubbings, where they helped each other to hold the paper whilst their friend made the marks! This has really supported their relationship making and sharing.

And as always, the children have been enjoying lots of games of hide & seek in Forest School – it remains a firm favourite!

Even fun games of hide and seek have led to huge improvements with their counting skills – at Forest School this week, one of the pre-schoolers counted independently to 27! WOW!

Flying Start @ Camborne Dance To World Music!

The children and staff at Flying Start @ Camborne have been exploring music and movement this week, dancing to lots of world music including Spanish and Bollywood tunes!

The staff helped teach the children some basic movements to have a go at, and they also watched some YouTube videos as inspiration…

They have particularly enjoyed dancing to Bollywood music – and they even got out their special Bollywood silk scarves to dance with!

The pre-schoolers and after-schoolers at Flying Start @ Penryn have been celebrating Chinese New Year 2017 with some fun themed activites…
The pre-schoolers and after-schoolers have been enjoying the new Chinese Restaurant role-play that has been specially set up in the pre-school room… The children have been taking it in turns to answer the phone, to take orders, and to eat in the restaurant!

The staff and children at Flying Start @ Duchy have been celebrating Chinese New Year with lots of different fun activities!
The pre-school children listened to a special story which described what Chinese New Year is all about, and then they enjoyed a food testing session where the children tried spring rolls, egg fried rice and prawn crackers! Yum!

The children also enjoyed exploring noodles and beansprouts…the younger ones with their hands and the older ones practised usingtongs to pick them up and put them into bowls!

The staff also hosted a stay and play session with parents, where  the children made lanterns with their parents and decorated roosters as it is the Year of the Rooster!
