The pre-school department at Flying Start @ Duchy have been baking some buns!

The children helped weigh out all of the ingredients, mix them together, and then spoon the mixture into the cases.

The children & staff talked about the different tools and utensils they used, including the scales, whisk and wooden spoon. They also talked about the ingredients and where they come from…

Afterwards, when the staff had baked the buns in the oven, the children got to eat their delicious buns! YUM!

Flying Start @ Duchy have been celebrating World Book Day!

The whole nursery dressed up in their pyjamas and brought in their favourite bedtime stories to share with their friends!

They all spent the day reading stories and sharing with their friends the books they had brought in – great reading, Duchy!

Flying Start @ Duchy Do Natural Object Painting!

 The toddlers at Flying Start @ Duchy have been making some beautiful natural object paintings…

They have been using sticks and leaves with all different brightly coloured paints to make marks, and create some lovely artwork!

The toddlers had carefully picked the leaves and sticks themselves whilst out on a forest school trip, where they looked for and picked up lots of different shapes and sizes especially to make different marks!

The children at Flying Start @ Saltash have been having great fun exploring large-scale mark making…

They have been getting stuck in, using all different objects for mark making and painting with brightly coloured paints!

The pre-school department at Flying Start @ Duchy have created their very own café, to role-play in!
The children spoke about their own experiences of going to cafes and ordering food and drink, and then with the help of the nursery nurses, they created a spider diagram of items that they would need to create their own…

The children have been especially enjoying dresisng up in their chefs costume, and taking it in turn to take food orders from their friends and write them down, before cooking them up…

The children have also been sitting at the table with their dollies and ordering them food too!

This has been great fun, but is also supporting the children’s relationships and pretend play too!

The pre-school department at Flying Start @ Saltash have been doing some exciting potion-making during their forest school sessions… The children collected sticks, leaves, mud and stones and then mixed them with glitter and water to make special forest potions!

They added a sprinkle of imagination… and all of the children came up with an idea for what their potion could do… some of them could make you fly and some of them could make you invisible!

They even shouted magic words and threw them in the air in the garden to see what would happen!!

The baby department at Flying Start @ Duchy have been exploring heuristic play lots recently!
The staff have been providing the babies with a whole range of interesting resources for them to explore and play with, however they choose to, which has resulted in lots of different play!
Some of the babies have been using the spoons and bowls to do some mixing…

Flying Start @ Helston Pre-School Enjoy Science Club!

Flying Start @ Helston Pre-School Enjoy Science Club! 
At Flying Start @ Helston, the pre-school science club have been making tornados!
 With the help of the staff, the children made up a special mixture in a bottle…  they poured in water to halway full, then added in a table spoon of soap and a table spoon of vinegar, and then a few drops of blue food colouring… then they put the lid on tightly and took it in turns to shake it upside down really fast!

Then they all watched as the mixture became a tornado and was twirling around really fast!!

Outside in the garden, the children have been really enjoying playing games of ‘stop, whats the weather?’ which has not only been lots of fun, but has helped the children identify different weathers!

The toddler department at Flying Start @ Duchy have been enjoying tummy time – and getting creative too!

The staff laid out a long piece of paper with paint spots and splodges on it and put cling film over the top…The children then put their puddle suits on in case it leaked, and lay on their tummies on the paper and explored the paint by pressing their hands and fingers on it!

The children were really fascinated by the texture, and moving the paint around, and spreading it further…

Flying Start @ Helston Explore Ice Sensory!

Flying Start @ Helston Explore Ice Sensory! 
The pre-school department at Flying Start @ Helston have been exploring water as their learning theme, and looking at it in all different themes… They discovered that water turns into ice when it is put into the freezer!

The pre-schoolers have been holding and playing with the ice – describing what it feels like, and noticing how quickly it melts!

And the staff even set a challenge for the children to build something from the ice before it melts in the air!

 The pre-schoolers had a lot of fun trying to balance the slippery and cold ice cubes on top of each other without them falling off or turning into big waterfalls! BRRRRRR!
