This week it was pitta pizzas on the menu! The children carefully spread the tomato puree on to the pitta and then sprinkled some cheese on top.

Flying Start @ Penryn Celebrate World Mental Health Day Through Crafts!

Flying Start @ Penryn Explore World Mental Health Day Using Play Dough!
Flying Start @ Penryn used one of the children’s favourite resources – play dough – to explore emotions for World Mental Health Day!
The children made emotion balls, which they then took home for their parents to also use, to encourage them to ‘take ten’ and talk about how they are feeling.

The children also made their own faces out of playdough, on templates, to allow them to change the expressions and play around with this!

Firstly, the children used ’emotion pebbles’ to identify various emotions and how they may make them feel before looking in the mirror at their own faces, and try out making lots of different expressions!

They then created some lovely artwork using their handprints, after discussing ideas for ‘When I am upset I like to…’ which gave the children the opportunity to think about what makes them
feel better when they have been upset.

The babies enjoyed some calming music as well as tummy time activities. This also included some play with bubbles which was a big hit!
The staff also made some sensory feelings bags using paint for the babies and toddlers to explore.

Finally, the staff created a ‘What makes me happy’ board which they asked their parents to contribute to! This got everyone talking about what made them happy, and included the parents in World Mental Health Day too!

Flying Start @ Saltash Explore Mindfulness For ‘World Mental Health Day’!

Flying Start @ Saltash Explore Mindfulness For ‘World Mental Health Day’!
Flying Start @ Saltash enjoyed a pack day of activities in honour of World Mental Health Day…
The day started with a warm up session of soft play, jumping , stretching and
lots of laughter coming from the children and the Saltash team! They also got outside and played football  in the garden- and enjoyed the benefits of fresh air and exercise!
image_pract_265
Using the Mindfulness technique, the staff helped guide the children to explore their senses by looking, listening , tasting and touching!
Kerrie made some spice infused rice and the children listened to the noise of the rice, which some children noticed sounded like the sound of rain… Then the children then had a smell of the rice, which some of they liked and some of them wrinkled their noses at!
image_pract_252
Then it was time for the CHOCOLATE… The children were set the challenge of having one large chocolate button each which they had to place on their tongues and not chew or bite it.
Some of them found it really tricky not to gobble it up, but they really enjoyed seeing who could hold it for the longest, and the yummy sensation of the melting chocolate on their tongues! Just look at these fab photos!

They ended the day with some relaxation time, listening to stories about the different emotions we experience, and how its okay to have them, whether they are happy, sad or angry.
Fantastic work, Saltash team, for World Mental Health Day!
