Flying Start @ Duchy Are Getting Outside.. Whatever The Weather!

Flying Start @ Duchy are getting outside… with lots of happy smiles!

As you can see in the photo, this little boy was thoroughly enjoying getting outside, even if it has been a bit cold!

The children dashed out whilst the rain held off, but popped the hoods up and continued splashing and exploring the garden regardless of the odd shower!

Please just make sure your child is as prepared as possible for any weather as we all know how unreliable it can be!!

Flying Start @ Penryn Use Wooden Heuristic Items To Construct!

Flying Start @ Penryn have been exploring wooden heuristic items in the baby room.

These items range from wooden spoons, mug trees, wooden blocks, wooden shapes, wooden egg cups.. and lots more!

The babies explore the items in lots of different ways, finding ways to connect them together, roll them, construct with them and generally experiment with their never ending play opportunities!

Here this little boy was very proud of his own achievement! He said ‘TAADAA!’ when he had completed his building project!

Heuristic play just means open ended play with lots of normal objects, play that your baby can do with no right or wrong way to do it! This is great at home.. try giving them a washing basket or some saucepans and utensils and see how they play! Maybe take a photo or make a note on what they do to show your childs keyworker at nursery – any information on your childs playing at home is very useful to the staff at nursery!

Flying Start @ Helston enjoy exploring tubes and tunnels!

The children from Flying Start @ Helston are exploring tunnels and tubes this week!

So far they have been using them to look through and find each other, building high towers and rolling balls down them.

This little boy especially likes looking throught them to find his friends and playing peek-a-boo!

Guess who!!!

Flying Start @ Penryn hear some jingling bells and then meet their special visitor!

Flying Start @ Penryn get a special visit from Father Christmas!

Santa knew to come and visit the children, staff and families due to hearing some very loud Chritmas Songs from the children, at full volume Jingle Bells summoned Santa and this special appearance made for some great photographs!

The children told Santa what they had been doing at nursery, and what they hoped to recieve for Christmas, whilst parents enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies!

As you can see Santa even managed to find a little helpful elf in the nursery!

Flying Start @ Redruth Hunt the Bugs Out Of Their Hiding Places!

Flying Start @ Redruth preschool children have been exploring in their garden recently!

The children noticed that as the weather got colder the bugs were disappearing, so they set out on a mission to hunt down their missing bugs from their garden!

The children carefully used trowels and their hands, aware that they did not want to hurt the bugs but just find them. They dug around and did manage to uncover some creepy crawlies!

Please note the bugs were happily cared for in warm hands before being returned to their hidden houses underground!

Flying Start @ Penryn Raise Funds to Support Victims of Typhoon Haiyan

Flying Start @ Penryn learn about extreme weather, natural disasters and the devastation that can be caused.

The children explore recent news of Typhoon Haiyan and the devastation caused by this extreme weather in the Philippines, to the children, families buildings and schools.

The children learnt how dangerous weather can be and looked at photographs from the Philippines of a school before and after the typhoon. This is when the after school children decided that some of the money raised for children in need should go to children in real and desperate, current need: the children in the Philippines.

The children and Natalie (our trainee who has done lots of travelling in Asia and specifically the Philippines) decided to raise money for Shelterbox a charity helping with food aid and rebuilding schools and buildings. The children had a pyjama day and made lots of cakes to sell.

The parents, staff and friends were very supportive and a big well done to Flying Start @ Penryn must be given, as they raised a huge £50.48! Well done!
