Flying Start @ Penryn Bake With Babies!

Flying Start @ Penryn’s baby department love to bake!

Each week Linda and Kim in the baby department provide cooking club opportunities for the children to participate in.

They started to do a cooking club with babies as a suggestion from a parent, who noticed other departments do cooking club and queried why the babies weren’t… and the Penryn Team agreed! So a cooking club was born and now lots of lovely baking happens as well as exctiting learning opportunities for the children.

The children have chopped fruit for fruit salads, explored different textured fruit and vegetables and made their own dips to try them with, baked small bread rolls kneading the dough themselves and here the children made chocolate chip cookies as a treat!

The children love getting involved and have been practicing using child safe knives, mixing with spoons, different sized bowls, small pouring jugs and of course the most important tool their hands and fingers!

The children take their cooking home to enjoy or sometimes eat it for a mid afternoon snack!

Keep your eyes peeled for our Parent Baking Event on the blog! The plan is for parents, relatives and friends to join the babies to make pizza’s and cheese straws and then enjoy for a late morning snack!

Flying Start @ Penryn Explore The Weather And It’s Daily Natural Presents!

Flying Start @ Penryn have been exploring all around their nursery premises and finding lots of interesting natural objects!

The preschool children in these photographs have been finding big sticks and branches and using them to measure length and height.

The children then used magnifying glasses to explore moss, pinecones, leave and twigs that came from the branches.

With their new weather board in the garden the children check the weather and display it, along with the date and day and then go on a hunt to see if the weather has provided any new natural resources for their exploration!

Flying Start @ Helston Brush Brush Brush Their Teeth!

Flying Start @ Helston learn a new song about brushing their teeth!

The children sing a song as they demonstrate the action of brushing their teeth!

Here the toddlers then could look into each other mouths, count lots of teeth and check they were all healthy!

Every day the children brush their teeth after lunch time, if your child does not have a toothbrush or needs a new one then please provide one to your keyworker.

Flying Start @ Penryn Visit Penryn Town Library For A Great Giraffe!

Flying Start @ Penryn visited their local town library this week for a morning of stories and crafts!

A big thankyou must be sent to Caroline Atkins for Penryn Library for being so kind and creating a morning of fun for the preschool children! They thoroughly enjoyed finding lots of books they had never read before and then a very speciall Giraffe Story before using the story to create Giraffe Masks!

penryngiraffemaskIt was a great opportunity for the preschoolers to further develop their leraning with in the ‘Reading’ aspect in the curriculum the EYFS. The children used the story books to explain the pictures and recreate stories, find out information, and start to follow the words from left to right across the page aware of when to join in and when to turn the page! Fantastic learning from an exciting outing.
All Penryn preschool children will now be recieving a Penryn Library Card to go to the library and activate, this will then mean the children can borrow books for up to three weeks at a time and enjoy new and exciting stories at home.

penryngiraffemask2Flying Start @ Penryn will also be offering a borrow scheme to parents of parenting books regarding healthy eating, toddler behaviour and parental support – if there is a particular topic you would like to borrow a book from then please let Sophia know and she will endeavour to source the relevant material for you.

Flying Start @ Saltash Celebrate The Festivals of the World!

Flying Start @ Saltash have created this beautiful Celebration Tree!

The tree is in the nursery hall way by the front door, and will be used to celebrate the festivals of the world throughout the year!

Last month the tree had crafts the children had made representing Chinese New Year, and for February there are beautiful hearts to celebrate the forthcoming Valentines Day!

If you are a parent or friend of Saltash nursery why don’t you recommend a March celebration to decorate the tree?

Flying Start @ Duchy Have Been Kneading Their Messy Area!

Flying Start @ Duchy have been measuring, mixing, kneading and moulding play dough in their messy play!

The preschool children identified their ingredients, and then used cups to measure the quanitites needed to make playdough… and of course the required sprinkle of glitter!

They mixed their dry ingredients firstly, then added warm water and then the much anticipated step came when the children could get their hands in the bowl and knead the dough together!

The play dough was used to explore texture and use tools such as rolling pins and cutters!

Lots of fun was had in the preschool room, from the beginning of the making process right through to the hours of kneading and experimenting with the dough.

Flying Start @ Helston Chatter To Sam!

Flying Start @ Helston preschool children enjoy some small group time where they listen and talk to Sam ‘the puppet’.

This small circle time allows the preschool children to listen to each other, start to ask each other questions to explore meanings and thoughts and also grow in confidence by sharing their feelings and sentences with Sam the puppet, who is everybodies friend!

Flying Start @ Saltash Start Their French Club.. Bonjour!

Flying Start @ Saltash have started a French Club!

Weekly the preschool children learn all about the country of France, french cultures and customs, foods and of course language!

Lots of new words are being listened too and then slowly we are also starting to practice saying them… at morning registration listen out for a bonjour, or at snack time let’s hope to hear a merci!

In the picture the children use a really large floor map to plot where their country is and where they live and then to find France! The children didn’t think it looked very far, but when explaining ways to get to France lots of exciting stories could be heard!
