Flying Start @ Illogan Welcome the New Term

We have had a wonderful first week back at Illogan Flying Start after a Summer off.

The children have enjoyed developing their physical skills on our new climbing den outside. We have been on many bug hunts, the wet weather bought all the slugs and snails.

We used our nature findings to create journey bracelets and we enjoyed some delicious blackberries collected from our garden.

Flying Start @ Illogan Celebrate our Special Males

We had such a wonderful father’s day stay and play with our special males, lots of fun outside in our garden and some sausage baps and homemade biscuits! Thank you to all of you who came along and joined us in the setting for a lovely afternoon.

Flying Start @ Illogan get Buzzee about Bees!

This week we learnt all about Bee’s at Illogan Flying Start, discovering how they help us and the world around them. We talked about what we could do to help the Bee’s and help protect them. We made pollinators, bee crafts, tried on a bee keeper suit, learnt lots of new wonderful facts about them, built bee houses and ate some delicious honey sandwiches!

Flying Start’s Annual Training Day 2024

Flying Start’s annual Staff Training Day was a huge success 🌟

Our day started with a company wide catch up with our 90 staff focusing in on the success of the past year and our focus as a company to be keeping healthy, always learning and more sustainable in the year ahead!

Then we had lots of hands on learning, focused on the age groups the practitioners work with and developing certain parts of our curriculum. It was a very creative day!
Even the Managing Director got stuck in to large outdoor squiggle art!

We enjoyed an amazing lunch from The Spitting Pig, the food was delicious!

Followed by some more afternoon workshops where our teams had time to make resources to take back and use with their key children.

Finishing with our awards ceremony, where we celebrated so many efforts of our incredible Flying Start teams, who we know do such a fab job day in day out!

Flying Start @ Illogan Enjoy the Snow!

We had a snow day at Flying Start Illogan!

What a way to kick start our December, the children explored the snow and the crunchy noises it made beneath our welly boots. The following day the water had turned to ice, we explored this learning it smashes just like glass. The children were very excited to leave water out around the garden to see if it froze again for us to discover after the weekend.

Flying Start @ Illogan Plant Pumpkins

We have been planting our old pumpkins in the hope we will get some growing ready for next years Autumn treasures.

The children got stuck in the mud and did a fabulous job.

Flying Start @ Illogan Decorate Pumpkins

The children at Flying Start Illogan have been exploring pumpkins.

They collected natural materials from our garden and attached them to our pumpkins. We looked at the different colours and smelt the scents.

The children then decided the pumpkin needed some holes to poke in each natural object; this helped to develop their hand-eye coordination skills.

Flying Start @ Illogan Beach Clean

This week at Flying Start Illogan we have been learning all about how to keep our beaches clean and safe for humans and our world’s animals. The children have saved the animals from the plastics in the ocean, we discussed the importance of keeping our beaches and oceans clean. The children loved the stories we read and could tell us some wonderful facts they had learnt on their own trips to our local beaches. We finished our week by making lifeguard safety flags, discussing how to keep ourselves safe when at the beach.

Flying Start @ Illogan Opening Week

FINALLY on Monday 4th September, we opened our doors @ Flying Start Illogan. One of the children and staffs highlights of the week was the arrival of our very own wormery! The children have been collecting their fruit and veg peelings from the day to add to both our wormery and compost bin. They learnt all about how it is going to be super food for our own plants and foods that we are growing here in our garden. We read a wonderful story that taught us the importance of worms and how they help the earth flourish!
