Flying Start @ Illogan Make a Water Slide

The Toddlers @ Flying Start Illogan have been wholeheartedly enjoying the rainy weather by creating their very own water slide!

Initially, we poured bubble bath into the puddle creating lots of foam, making it even more exciting. Then, we took turns sliding down and splashing right into the puddle. We discovered that the water was quite deep, which made it even more thrilling!

We also realised that when we added more water to the slide it meant we went even faster down the slide ! It was an absolutely fantastic experience, offering the children a wonderful opportunity to practice and showcase their problem-solving and turn-taking skills.

Flying Start @ Illogan Go on a Bear Hunt

This week in the preschool children @ Flying Start Illogan, we concentrated on encouraging the children to progress in their educational journey by putting effort into maintaining our daily routines with focus and care. In addition to keeping these routines, we also devoted time to practising activities that involved taking turns. This method was aimed at helping the children develop essential qualities like sharing and patience.
Following our exciting adventure on a “bear hunt,” we began to explore the enchanting theme of autumn animals. During this exploration, we examined the incredible array of colours that autumn brings and took part in activities designed to help us retell stories. These activities are crucial for nurturing our imagination and enhancing our storytelling abilities.
We engaged in various tasks requiring strong hand-eye coordination. These tasks also involved closely following instructions, which allowed us to create beautiful autumn pictures. Over the course of the week, we undertook numerous activities that enhanced our hand-eye coordination using both fine and large motor skills.
We also created our own sensory bear hunt and engaged our senses by looking and listening to sounds while taking turns.

Flying Start @ Illogan Embrace Autumn

This week @ Flying Start Illogan, the children engaged in an activity centred around “‘the bear hunt,'” we joyfully turned our attention to the delightful theme of autumn, nurturing the ongoing development of our preschoolers. To begin, we thoughtfully enhanced and utilised our fine motor skills by tracing around various items collected from the garden. This activity was not only great fun, but it also supported us in improving our hand-eye coordination.

Additionally, we sang lively and cheerful songs about autumn leaves, which included counting up to 10, further developing our counting skills. As we sang, we took time to admire the beautiful and vibrant autumn colours around us, appreciating the splendour of the changing season.

Furthermore, we embarked on an exciting project where we created magnificent flying contraptions. This task encouraged us to work collaboratively as a team, fostering both teamwork and creativity as we built them.

We also used clay to craft charming autumn ‘animals.’ By incorporating loose parts such as leaves and flowers, we added an extra dimension of creativity to our creations. To finish it all off, we created delightful owls using leaves, showcasing our artistic skills and our ability to transform natural materials into wonderful works of art. We even crafted owls out of clay too. Throughout these activities, we focused on the words camouflage and nocturnal.

Flying Start @ Illogan Embark on a Magical Adventure

This week, the children @ Flying Start Illogan embarked on a truly enchanting and magical journey. This adventure involved them exploring various methods of transport, including travelling by trains, flying on planes, and even setting off by sea. The incredible destination of our fantastic journey was a lush and vibrant forest, chosen to complement our theme of the bear hunt. It is a place full of life, where we had the splendid opportunity to discover the magnificent trees and admire the colourful leaves that adorned the beautiful landscape.
During this marvellous adventure, we engaged in a range of creative activities that included painting and leaf rubbing. These activities provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to express their artistic talents while simultaneously learning about the wonders of the natural world surrounding them.
Furthermore, we discussed different “means of transport,” exploring ideas ranging from the fun notion of ‘riding a horse to the forest’ to the exciting concept of flying on a magic carpet, all of which sparked their imaginations even further.
To enhance our imaginative journey, we used loose parts to create our own bus, bought tickets for the ride, and took turns pretending to be the driver, ensuring everyone had a chance to lead our pretend travels.

Flying Start @ Illogan Clean the Dishes!

This week the children @ Flying Start Illogan introduced a new cleaning station during snack time to encourage independence among the children.
The children really enjoyed the process of cleaning their dishes after they had finished their snack.

Flying Start @ Illogan Explore Dandelions

Flying Start @ Illogan have been busy exploring the life cycle of the dandelion as a part of the Flora’s Explorers activities.
The children learnt about the life cycle and the many uses a dandelion has. The children had a go at painting their own dandelions whilst learning the parts of the flower and even had a go at making their own dandelion tea and dandelion ink.

Flying Start @ Illogan Discover Newts!

The children @ Flying Start Illogan cleared out the nursery pond and found 18 newts!
The children we super excited with the discovery. We then learnt how to care for the newts, create new habitats for them and learn more about their lifecycle.

Flying Start @ Illogan Get Creative With Clay

Flying Start @ Illogan have been outside getting creative with clay. We used our fine motor skills to mould the clay into different shapes, making bowls and garden birds.

The children used different leaves found in the nursery garden to get creative to see what prints they could make in the clay.

A parent kindly gifted us some brand new books which we have been really enjoying in our outdoor areas. The children read the books in a group showcasing their excellent sharing skills and wonderful friendships. Thank you SO much for our beautiful new books!

Flying Start @ Illogan have been enjoying the dry weather!

Making the most of the weather, we created some shaded den areas, engaging in some large scale outdoor mark making with our peers, and developing our growing area with lots of wonderful digging and planting taking place.

The Pre School children at Camborne have been practising their mark making.

They have been attempting different shapes as well as drawing self-portraits and objects found in the garden.
