Flying start @ Marjon Have Been Busy Feeding the Birds!

Over the past few weeks, the Flora’s Mini Explorers have been very busy in the garden feeding the birds. They worked hard to make their own bird feeders and have been regularly filling and checking them to make sure the birds always have food. Watching the birds return again and again has been a lovely reward, and the children feel proud knowing they are helping to care for nature and their feathered friends.

Flying Start @ Marjon Learn About Insects!

At Flying Start @ Marjon, Flora’s Mini Explorers have been diving into the wonderful world of insects. Together we read Mini Beast Bop, enjoying the lively rhythm and meeting lots of different mini beasts! We also read The Bug Collector, following the story of a young collector who learns to appreciate insects in their natural homes. The children also explored a range of fact books about insects, discovering fascinating information about how bugs live, move, and help our environment. We have loved learning about these tiny creatures!

Safe Sleep Reassurance

You may have seen the recent news sharing the best advice and updating requirements for safe sleeping for babies and young children, this has always been a priority at Flying Start Nurseries.
To help reassure you we just wanted to remind you that:
  • When babies go to bed we remove their outer clothing, jumpers and hoodies, bibs, dummy clips and anything too tight on their necks
  • We check the room temperature and make sure it is a comfortable temperature between 16-20 degrees
  • We place babies on their backs with their feet at the bottom of the cot
  • We allow the use of well fitting sleeping bags if parents want to supply them
  • We check their temperature, breathing, and general wellbeing regularly and record these checks
  • Older babies or children may sleep on a sleep mat, if so, they are constantly supervised by a qualified staff member
We are making a slight change to our procedure and will be resharing our policy with parents via the app, but to let you know, if babies under a year fall asleep on a walk we will always transfer them from the pram to a cot as it is safer. If children aged over 1 fall asleep in our prams, if possible we will lay the pram flat and remove/open outer clothing on their return to the setting closely supervising them sleeping.
We have made this watertight in our procedure and policy to make sure safe sleeping is always thought about!
If families need any advice or support, talk to baby staff in the nursery and take a look at The Lullaby Trust.

To kick start our growing mission and re-inspire us all after so much rain, we have signed up for our children to receive exciting post each month from POT GANG!
Delivered to the nursery door, a box to open with different types of seeds and clear instructions to get growing!
We have started with seedling potatoes, herbs, and strawberries..
The start of the month has become very exciting, because we don’t know what is coming next!
Watch this space for updates… and do share photos with your nursery or on your child’s learning story of anything you have growing at home, we would love to show the children.

Flying Start @ Redruth Create Magic Wands

Flora’s Mini Explorers at Marjon have been having a wonderful time creating magic wands in the forest area.

The children collected sticks and natural materials, using their imaginations to turn simple finds into something special. They worked together, shared ideas, and got creative as they decorated their wands. It was lovely to see their confidence grow as they proudly showed their finished creations and talked about the magic their wands could make.

The activity encouraged teamwork, creativity, and lots of joyful exploration throughout the week.

Flying Start @ Marjon Create Magic Spells

The Preschool children @ Flying Start Marjon been thoroughly enjoying reading “Room on the Broom,” and we thought it would be fun to create some items from the book, such as a cauldron and a magical wand, to help our pumpkin seeds grow by using a magic spell.

Flying Start @ Marjon Find Ladybirds in the Woods

This week, the toddler children @ Flying Start Marjon have been going on an exciting ladybird hunt in the forest area! Equipped with their magnifying glasses, they eagerly searched for ladybirds and discovered all the clever hiding spots where the little insects like to stay. They have also been decorating their own ladybird too.
Throughout the activity, the children worked together beautifully, building new friendships and strengthening their social skills as they explored nature side by side.
