This week, the pre-school children and holiday club children at Flying Start @ Camborne all took part in beach school!

They enjoyed a picnic on the beach watching the waves – what a location for snack time!

Then it was time for exploring… the children collected various beach materials including pebbles, seaweed, driftwood and shells, and then created pictures of their faces in the sand!

The children tried different ways to make marks in the sand… they used their hands, driftwood and the rocks to do this!

Great creativity and learning on the beach!

Flying Start @ Camborne Pre-Schoolers Bake Scones!

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Camborne helped bake some scones …as part of the yummy treats for their end of summer nursery party!

The children worked together to read the ingredient amounts from the recipe, and then weigh out what they needed….

Then they mixed all the correct amounts of each ingredients together to make a dough…

… and rolled it out using lots of strong arms!

Then they pressed the cutter into the dough to make the scones the right shapes, and the nursery staff took them off to cook and cool!

Once they were ready, the children enjoyed them at their end of summer party lunch with some jam     … delicious and what a treat!

Flying Start @ Camborne Host End Of Summer Party!

All of the staff and children at Flying Start @ Camborne threw a nursery party to mark the end of the summer!

The children enjoyed preparing for the end of summer tea party by making party hats and crowns using various materials!

  

 The children then wore them as they tucked into a delicious party lunch, with lots of special party foods…

And they even had party horns, which were endlessly entertaining, as you can see from the photos!

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Camborne have been learning about the ocean, and how the tides work!

 

They have been talking all about the sea and all got involved with an experiment to see what happens to the sand and the sea animals when the tide goes in and out!

They also talked about when it is safe to swim in the sea and what signs they might find on the beach which tell them where to swim…

  

Great work learning about our wonderful beaches, and an important lesson in beach safety too!

The Pre-schoolers and Holiday Club at Flying Start @ Camborne took a trip in the Flying Start bus to Bombadingas Soft play area!

The children had such a great time exploring all of the obstacles, letting off lots of energy, and playing with their friends!

 

Smiles all round from a fun trip!

Flying Start @ Camborne Pre-Schoolers Get Messy With Sand Experiments!

The Pre-school children and the Holiday Club at Flying Start @ Camborne have been doing some experimenting, with textures and mixtures!

They added different things to pots of sand to see what happened…

They discover that adding conditioner to the sand makes it very gloopy and sticky!

They got stuck in, mixing it and moulding it with their hands…

…and then they weighed the sand and compared the weights depending on what they’d mixed in! Great experimenting, Camborne!

The Pre-school and Holiday Club children at Flying Start @ Camborne, have been using clay to make their own little turtles!

They’ve been talking about and exploring sea animals, so it was their chance to have a go at making their own turtles.. just look at their amazing concentration!

The toddler department at Flying Start @ Camborne have been getting artistic… using their hands and feet!

 

The nursery nurses laid out big rolls of paper, and then helped the children to paint their hands and feet with lots of colourful paints!

 

 

Then the children walked, stamped, printed, and did high-fives to make lots of colourful patterns on the paper, and explore the feeling on their hands and feet!

Thinking on an epic adventure fairy-tale theme, the holiday club at Flying Start @ Camborne have been getting creative!

 

 

Firstly, they went outdoors and collected natural items to make into wonderful woodland crowns…

They glued on their natural treasure, and make brilliant crowns!

 

Then they decided to build a fort, inspired by stories of adventure, and used boxes and everything they could lay their hands on, to make a life-size fort in the nursery room!

Flying Start Managers & Team Leaders Attend Annual Away Day!

 

At Flying Start, we pride ourselves on offering our staff extensive development opportunities. And one of the highlights of the calendar for our Managers and Team Leaders, is our Annual Away Day!

 

 

The Managers and Team Leaders from our nurseries across Cornwall and Plymouth came together for a day themed around ‘Healthy Workplace’.

 

 

 

They took part in a morning of workshop sessions that included developing 5 year forward plans, and innovative training sessions led by the Senior Team.

 

The staff will take their new learning back to their staff, to cascade to all of our nursery teams!

 

 

In the afternoon, it was time to head outside onto the beach and get active in the fresh air – an essential part of the Healthy Workplace initiative! They kicked off with a problem solving activity that demanded communication and lots of teamwork…

 

…And then enjoyed games of rounders and volleyball in teams! There was lots of encouragement, and lots of fun had by all!

 

 

They finished the day with a good old game of Tug Of War!

 

 

A huge thanks to the Senior Team for organising such a brilliant Away Day, and to all our Managers & Team Leaders for attending with such enthusiasm as always!
