Flying Start @ Camborne Celebrate ‘World Mental Health Day’ With A Day Full Of Activities!

Flying Start @ Camborne enjoyed a busy day full of activities focusing on their feelings and emotions, for World Mental Health Day!

The pre-school and toddler departments explored their emotions by using mirrors, to try out making faces that they might make when they are feeling happy, sad, excited or angry…

The children have been discussing altogether about what they can do when they are feeling sad or angry, and they used their Calm Down poster to get some good ideas…

The pre-school children particularly loved the idea of being a puffer fish if they are feeling angry – and taking a big breath in and blowing all the anger away! They also practised giving themselves a ‘clam cuddle’ when they needed a little reassurance…

…. Then they tried out being shy like a turtle and just popping their head out, and finally they were starfish jumping into the air for when they need to let all their energy out!

Why not have a go trying these out with your child at home!

The after school club also made badges of green ribbons to support mental health, and to show their kindness they made these thoughtful cards with a well-deserved cup of tea inside, to say thank you to the adults that care for them!

Flying Start @ Camborne Make Sushi!

Flying Start @ Camborne Try Out Making Sushi!

Flying Start @ Camborne had an exciting session trying their hand at making sushi, thanks to a parent at the nursery who agreed to come in and share her skills with the children!

 Sushi 2

Janise’s Mum is a chef at a local takeaway, and she showed the children how to make vegetarian sushi, which is a really healthy and delicious food from Japan!

 Sushi

Janise showed her friends how she helps her Mum make them at home for their family, and all the children listened carefully to the order of the different ingredients, and then had a go at rolling them up!

Sushi 3

Sushi 4

They made their sushi with boiled white rice flavoured with Japanese Vinegar, which the children tasted and decided it was both a sweet and sour flavour! Then they added cucumber and carrot sticks, but Janise’s Mum also explained how they can have chicken, beef, fish or seafood sticks in them too!

 Sushi 6

After they had made them, the children of course got to eat them and share them with their friends – delicious!

Thank you so much to Janise’s Mum for taking time out of her week to come in and share this fascinating and delicious activity with the children!

Flying Start @ Camborne See The Man Engine!

Flying Start @ Camborne See The Man Engine!

Flying Start @ Camborne enjoyed a very exciting trip into Camborne town, to see the incredible ‘Man Engine’ as it toured Cornish Heritage Sites!

 Man Engine 6

The children and staff all walked up to the town, and managed to get near to the front of the crowd, where they learned all about the Man Engine from Will Colman, and why it was built!

The children were incredibly excited to see the Man Engine finally stir and wake up… He was HUGE, and the children were fascinated by this magnificent machine, and all the people pulling the ropes to make him move down the street!

When they got back to nursery, the children used their exciting morning outing to fuel their creativity!

They drew detailed pictures of what they had seen…
