Flying Start @ Cornwall College celebrated St. Piran’s Day!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College celebrated St. Piran’s Day!

They had a very special visit from Steve Heller from Prima Bakery, who is a pre-school dad!

With donations from Prima Bakery, the children put their culinary skills to the test, chopping vegetables and rolling out pastry to make some scrummy homemade pasties! Once they had gone off in the oven with the grown-ups helping, the children got to tuck in and share them!

The children and staff also wore black and white outfits, like the St. Pirans flag!

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the patron saint of Cornwall!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Baby Garden Grows!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Babies Welcome Spring…

The babies at Cornwall College are hoping this sunny weather is the start of Spring, they have embraced it by starting to get their garden ready for lots of fun and exploration not just wet weather play!

After exploring lots of nature based activities on their weekly forest schools, the babies have been showing an interest in leaves, plants and things that are growing.

So they brought this into the garden, digging soil and planting some herbs. Although scooping the soil was a little tricky they managed it with baby sized scoops!

After lots of smelling of the herbs, they gave them a little water and now must remember to do that little and often to help them grow.

The babies have also enjoyed some picnic snacks and taking the inside out, to freshen up the garden and spend some time in the fresh air!

What a lovely way to recognise the day!

This week Toddlers have held our very special ‘Valentines’ Stay and Play. We made and decorated Heart shaped biscuits and also created cards for our special people who we love.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Woodland Adventure!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Preschool Morning In  Tehidy Woods!

The preschool department took their learning to the woods, to explore nature through a range of activities which encouraged the children to touch, feel, see and build with natural items.

They started by creating marks, looking at the different items and textures around them to use. Using sticks in the mud, and then taking leaf and bark rubbings.

Then the children got busy building a shelter… this involved lots of trial, error and problem solving!

Finding the right sized branches and using team work to lift and safely carry them to their shelter spot, the children worked hard to build….

this AMAZING structure!

Wow! Great team work paid off and the children could shelter in their special place, ready for a quick snack!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Babies Bug Hunt!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College’s Forest School for Babies…

This week in their forest school, the babies have been on a bug hunt!

With their magnifying glasses the little ones searched for different bugs and explored the natural items and textures that they found.

This group of children go out weekly for forest school activities which all focus on exploring nature, and the children are starting to get really confident in the woodland environment! This week, looking under leaves and rocks and with support amongst tree trunks and roots.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Celebrate With Chinese Cooking, Eating and Good Fortune!

The Toddler department would like to say a BIG thank you to Chanel’s Mum who came in to nursery to teach the children all about Chinese New Year, a festival her family celebrate.

Bringing along some prawn crackers the children had a snack before they learnt how to make Spring Rolls. Then whilst they were cooking the children enjoyed Fortune Cookies with special messages whilst they talked about the festival, learning that it was the Year Of The Pig!

Thankyou again to Chanel’s Mum – It was so helpful to learn so much!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Get In An Ambulance… In The Snow!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Met A Paramedic Crew In Their Ambulance

The children in all departments met with Jeremy the Paramedic who visited the nursery to kindly teach the children all about his job and the Ambulance he drives.

Although that morning was full of snow chaos and difficulty getting in to nursery, the Ambulance still arrived and the children thoroughly enjoyed this learning experience!

Speaking to the Paramedic about his job and the type of people he helps, before getting into the ambulance to see the equipment and even put the blue lights on! Listening to the sirens were a highlight for the children who got very excited!

Thankyou Jeremy the Paramedic for your time and patience…. we hope we aren’t your patients any time soon!
