Flying Start @ Cornwall College Get Spooky!
We have had lots of Spooky going – ons this week in Pre-School. Our family members came to join us for our Halloween special stay and play.
We made scary biscuits, carved pumpkins, made spooky necklaces and even done some monster dancing.
Flying Start @ Cornwall College Get Hands On!!!!
This week the Pre-school children have been exploring the use of tools to create objects out of wood. They used a wide range of equipment safely, after creating their own risk assessments, such as hammers, screwdrivers, nails and screws.
Following on from this, if you have any off cuts of wood at home and would like to add to our woodwork station, please feel free to drop them in.
Flying Start @ Cornwall College Explore Their New Autumn Corner!
They collected leaves on walks around the college campus over the last week, and now they have dried out are feeling the crunchy leaves, looking at the colours and reading stories with leaves, trees and some even have forest friends in them!
This week forest animal puppets and real pumpkins joined the children in their little exploration area. The children explored the colours and patterns on the pumpkins before picking them up and feeling how heavy they were… and very quickly what a BIG sound they made when dropped!!
We will continue to explore autumnal stories, sensory and even the inside of the pumpkin in the next few weeks!

We all made cakes ready for the coffee morning!
Pre school room held a meet the Key-worker / Macmillan coffee morning last week. We had some lovely conversations about how well the children have been settling into the Pre school
room these last few weeks, as well as raising £48.71 for this wonderful charity!
Flying Start @ Cornwall College Celebrate Difference!
This week in the Toddler Department we have been sending home cardboard people cut outs, with some different craft materials.
The children have started to bring back their little people, all decorated and different!
We are celebrating differences at the nursery, and looking at the way people look and how it is okay to be different… it is what makes us special after all!
These are photographs sent in by parents of their children doing their art at home, this also helps create an interesting circle time, where the children tell us what they used and who their little person might be!
Flying Start @ Cornwall College Listen to The Woods!
The Pre-School children went to Tehidy woods this week to be at one with nature. During the session we explored our own emotions and shared these with each other as part of our ‘Emotion Coaching’ initiative. Using natural items we collected, we created different pictures of things we like and even our own faces to depict how we are feeling. These included, a Minions rocket, a unicorn, happy faces and even a duck.
After exploring the woods and pretending a big branch was a train, we were very tired, so we laid down on the grass, closed our eyes and concentrated really hard on what we could hear in the environment. We heard, birds in the trees, ducks and swans on the pond, other people in the woods and we could even hear the quiet hum of cars in the distance.
We were amazed at the sounds we heard and can’t wait to explore further soon!
Flying Start @ Cornwall College Explore Art In Unusual Ways!
This week the Toddlers have been experiment the different ways to use paint and make marks.
They used squirty bottles whilst outside to decorate Elmer as part of their topic and even used their own bodies to see what marks they could make, this was very messy but great fun!
They also looked at the different patterns they could create by using their wellie boots.
Flying Start @ Cornwall College Get Building!
This week we have been practising using different tools to create structures and patterns using our tinkering set.
We wear our protective clothing to do our wood work, and then have to follow some safety rules as we are using real tools and nails.
Look at the patterns we were making with the string on our nails!
Flying Start @ Cornwall College Release Their Butterflies!
After watching the caterpillars turn into cocoons and then hatch, we released our butterflies into the open.
It was so exciting!!
