Flying Start @ Cornwall College Splish Splosh Splash!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College have been enjoying their beautiful garden in the sunshine!

With their sun hats on they have been eager to be outside from early in the morning for the whole day, using their ginormous tree in the centre of the garden as shade in the really sunny times.

The toddlers have been cooling off by paddling and splashing around in cool bubbly water!

I think pretending to visit the beach should always end up in an icecream though….?!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College have been getting creative at Food Times!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College have moved along with the summer weather that they have been enjoying to incorporate it into their snack and meal times!

The preschool children have been enjoying their snack in the garden, sharing a picnic blanket and nibbling in the sunshine!

The menu for the children’s lunches has also moved towards the summer menu, so that really heavy lunches or hot soups can be swapped for a summery alternative such as fresh salads and finger foods.

The children have enjoyed learning about these changes and helping the cook in cutting and chopping salads and vegetables, and even baking their own bread rolls to have alongside their ploughman’s lunch!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Rubbing Nature Away!

CCinsects

Flying Start @ Cornwall College have taken the toddlers on an outing in the sunshine to Heartlands!

Heartlands is a lovely open plan nature site, and the children were able to go on a Bug and Bear Hunt!

First the children searched for insects, then found lots of interesting textures and surfaces which they took rubbings off. Using crayons the children made rubbings of lots of different natural objects; rock surfaces, leaves, bark etc.

Then the children went on a Bear Hunt! They were able to pull on their welly boots and squelch through the mud, swish and swash through real wavy grass and even splash and splosh in the river at Heartlands!

Such a lovely trip and great to enjoy the sunshine.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Babies Exploration and Experimentation!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College have been using their exploratory impulses in the baby department!

Provided with lots of open ended play opportunities or new and interesting activities the children have been exploring and experimenting, learning through their play.

From heuristic collections, to risk taking, sensory exploration, experimenting with sounds and physical challenges the babies have enjoyed uninterrupted play, which encourages the children to develop their characteristics of learning. Focusing on exploring, problem solving and experimenting with objects to achieve and develop their thinking skills has been an exciting time.

You could try this at home… provide a collection of normal everyday objects for your child and allow them to explore them and play with them as they wish! It really can be as simple as that! Then observe what they do, note if they use the object for its purpose (for example a saucepan to role-play cook), or fit objects together, explore the sounds through banging and shaking or add to the collection themselves! Any observation can help to understand your child’s characteristics of learning and which characteristics help them to naturally have effective learning through play, share with your key worker and they will help link it to the EYFS document!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Number Their Water Fun!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College have been using their wonderful garden lots in the recent beautiful sunshine!

Both children and staff have loved getting outside and learning through play in their outdoor space.

The preschool children have been practising naming their numerals and shapes, recognising them and then developing their writing and drawing of them… using their fingers in damp sand, water and paintbrushes and now chalks on the ground!

The children loved spending a hot afternoon filling up balloons with water ready to play a target game of landing their water balloon for it to POP in their named shape or number! This got their brains thinking, arms throwing and feet jumping out of the way of the splash!

However we are not sure who enjoyed it more… the children or the staff?! And these pictures lead us no further in our decision as everyone looks like they are having a great time!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Making New Friends!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College have been having some recent visits from some Adult Learners based on their campus.

The adult learners have been exploring workforces and how a nursery runs with staff and children was of particular interest, so they arranged for a visit to the nursery preschool department.

The adult’s came and made lots of new friends in the preschool department, both children and adults learning each others names, ages and favourite things before playing together in the sunshine!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Enjoy a Bus Ride to the Pet Shop!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Toddler Department went on a double decker bus to Camborne recently!

The bus went through lots of streets until the children had to ding the bell ready to get off!

The children then went to visit different sites in Camborne, with one of them being the pet shop.

The children carefully looked through the cages to see lots of different animals in the pet shop and then they even got to stroke and hold some animals!
