Flying Start @ Cornwall College Forest Trip

This week the pre-schoolers went on a trip to the forest. We took our morning snack down with us to eat and collected lots of different leaves, looking at the shapes, sizes and colours. We discussed why some leaves were green, some were orange, and some were brown. On the way back to nursery, we spotted some blackberries. We collected these and later on in the afternoon used them to paint with.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Discuss World Mental Health Day

For World Mental Health Day, we have been talking about our emotions. Some of us drew emotion houses to show what makes us happy, sad, excited, and angry. The preschool children have also been making paper plate masks with different emotions on them and emotion flowers using our hands and paint, talking about all the kind things we do to make people happy.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Construction

This week we’ve had fun exploring the construction tuff tray. We used the diggers to transport the different sensory and used the stones and pieces of wood to do some natural building. We spoke about what each of the sensory items were and how they felt in our hands.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Tuff Spot Play

This week we had an exploratory hedgehog tuff spot. We used spaghetti and a colander to make our own hedgehog! We carefully threaded the spaghetti through the holes in the colander, this took a lot of concentration. We then read the story ‘That’s not my hedgehog’. We liked feeling the different textures of the hedgehog in the story book. We then played with the soft hedgehog toy and moved him around his little garden. We spoke about where hedgehogs live and what they like to eat.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Celebrate our Queen

The preschool children have been remembering our dearly departed Queen this week. We are so proud to have received a letter from the Queen after we sent her some of the children’s artwork to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee. We have been making pictures of the Queen, using various technqiues such as finger painting and using fly swatters. In addition to this, the children have been busy making Union Jack flags and bread rolls.
