Flying Start @ Cornwall College Heartlands Trip

At Cornwall College our babies and toddlers had a lovely walk up to Heartlands! We had a great time playing in the park and practised our turn taking on the slide, we then sat down for some singing before looking for the fish in the pond on our way back to nursery!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Explore Science

This week we’ve been scientists @ Flying Start Cornwall College

On Monday we explored colour transfer. We filled up 4 cups with coloured water and divided them up with plastic cups. Then we put kitchen roll in each cup and watched as the colours moved up the kitchen roll. After a couple of hours the empty cups started to fill with water from the kitchen roll.

On Tuesday we made rainbows using skittles and water. We arranged the skittles into a circle around the plates and then added hot water. We watched as the colours ran, discussing how the hot water had melted the sugar coating.

On Wednesday we made volcanoes by mixing coloured bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We spoke about how the acidic vinegar reacts with the soda and causes it to fizz and bubble up.

On Thursday we carried out our germ experiment. In a tray we sprinkled glitter, and this acted as our germs. Then we stuck our finger into hand soap, and then into the middle of the germs and watched as they ran away. We spoke about the importance of washing our hands with soap to get rid of the germs.

On Friday we experimented with oil and water. We used pipettes to drop water into the oil to see what happened.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Are Busy Cooking

Last week Upper Preschool @ Flying Start Cornwall College were learning mathematical concepts and practising using their cutlery through cooking. We made shortbread biscuits and cheese twists, using the rolling pin to flatten out the dough. The children practised their knife skills, spreading the tomato sauce and cutting up the ham into small pieces to put on their pizzas. The children had to do lots of mixing whilst making the garlic bread and banana muffins, measuring out the ingredients and identifying when we’d reached the correct number on the scales.

Flying Start @ Redruth End The Summer Term

As it is the last week of the summer term and some children will leave on Friday, Upper Preschool decided to have a week of fun. Sid the puppet left us some letters in the post box this week which we needed to read using our fantastic phonics skills. On Monday he asked us to show off our talents in a talent show. Then on Wednesday we read our letter to find out that we were having a disco. Sid also asked us to bake some buns to eat at the party. Then on Friday Sid had left another letter and we were very excited to find out that we were going to watch a film.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Bear Hunt

Lower Preschool have been on a bear hunt! We enjoyed a lovely walk down to the campus woods in the search of Suzie the bear. Down at the woods we sat for a rest and a drink of water to keep hydrated in the sun. We then continued our journey to find the bear hiding behind the tree! What a fun adventure!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Bug Hunt

The Toddlers @ Flying Start Marjon have been on the hunt for different types of bugs. The children have had great fun turning over stones and logs to see what they can find. They even picked up a worm to explore it a bit more.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Tea Party

To celebrate Flora’s 30th birthday we had a garden party! We had a yummy snack picnic and danced around the may pole. What a lovely celebration!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Celebrate St George’s Day

This week the preschool children at Flying Start Cornwall College have been learning about St George’s day. At the start of the week, we learnt about the story of St George and the dragon. We spoke about how he was a knight, who wore armour – the children then had a go at colouring in their own knights. Then we looked at the map on the wall and found England. Some of the children were able to tell Danielle that’s where we live, then they coloured in an English flag.

Later in the week we designed our own shields and dragons. Towards the end of the week, we made dragons using paper plates. We’ve also had fun playing in our St George’s themed tuff tray all week, using the castles that we made together out of junk modelling and papier-mâché. What a busy week!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Visit Heartlands

The Pre-Schoolers at Cornwall College have been out enjoying the local park! We dressed up in our boots and took a walk together. We held hands and learnt all about road safety when crossing the roads. We sat and had a snack and drink, jumped in puddles, and did lots of climbing and exploring!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Celebrate St Piran’s Day

This week the preschool children at Cornwall College have been learning about the story of St Piran. We started the week off by learning the story, using props and puppets to help us act it out. Then we drew the story on our storyboards, recalling the information Danielle had taught us, and practising our pencil grip and name writing. This week the children have also made the Cornish flag using tissue paper, and coloured in some Cornish themed worksheets, speaking about the things Cornwall is most known for. Towards the end of the week, we practiced our crimping technique and made delicious pasties!
