Flying Start @ Cornwall College Road Safety

This week is Road safety week. The preschoolers have been busy talking about how to stay safe when out and about and the importance of the “stop, look, listen” mantra. We have had lots of exciting learning opportunities for the children to explore including a yummy traffic light smoothie and traffic light crackerbread for snack, car tracks with traffic signs, and some traffic light colouring in.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Celebrate Thanksgiving

The children in Upper preschool have been discussing all the different things they are thankful for and drew these onto leaves to hang onto our thankful tree. The children also made biscuits to take home to their loved ones in a handmade box to thank them for all the lovely things they do. Turkeys have been a big theme across Upper Preschool this week, we’ve painted our hands to make colourful turkeys and also made them out of paper bowls.

The children in Lower preschool have been talking about what they’re thankful for whilst painting their own turkeys. They also practised their name recognition by ordering the letters in their name to make their turkeys plumes as well as having a turkey shape hunt around the room.

The Day Nursery children got crafty and made some wonderful turkeys using paints and paper plates! This allowed us to practise our fine motor skills. During the activity we also spoke about some of the things we are thankful for with our peers and grown ups.

Day Nursery One had a spooky stay and play with some of their loved ones!

The children got super messy exploring the pumpkin gloop, we practised our fine motor skills by transporting the creepy crawly spiders using the tweezers, and we also made spiders using playdough and pipe cleaners!

The children enjoyed showing their loved ones around and had a wonderful time!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Zoom to the Moon

This term Upper Preschool are going to be learning about Space! This week we have started by learning all about rockets.

First of all we looked at the different parts of the rocket. We practised using our scissors and cut out the different parts and then glued them on in the correct place.

We designed our own astronauts, talking about the rules astronauts must follow whilst in space. Did you know astronauts sleep tied down? This led on to a discussion about gravity and why everything floats around in space. We then discussed our golden rules at nursery, and why they are important.

We’ve also explored galaxy playdough, moon sand, alien slime and made our very own rockets in the garden.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College All About Me

As the children in Upper Preschool have now moved to their new room, met some new keyworkers and have new friends start, we’ve been getting to know each other and talking about our families. This week the children have been talking about their homes and who they live with! We had a look at different types of houses around the world, talking about the similarities and differences between our own. We then had a go at making our houses out of Lego, carefully selecting different shapes and sized pieces for different purposes.

We followed our learning on in the garden. We went on a hunt for some natural items such as sticks, leaves, and stones. We then used these items, along with the playdough, to make our pets. If we didn’t have one at home we made the animal we would like as a pet.

The children have also practised their scissor skills by cutting out different shapes to make their houses.
