Flying Start @ Saltash Toddler’s Are Building Houses!

Flying Start @ Saltash’s Toddlers Copy The Little Pigs…

After reading 3 Little Pigs, the children’s story theme for the half term, the children decided to have a go at using sticks to make house shapes

The toddlers, moved the sticks around in the tray to try and work out how to make a triangle for the rood and a square for the house.

The children did colour matching which the sticks, shape sorting and recognising and also counting… before adding in their little pigs to act out the story!

This proved to be a simple, but really effective activity to teach maths whilst enjoying their favourite story at the moment!

Flying Start @ Duchy’s Crocodile Counting!

Flying Start @ Duchy Count Crocodile Teeth!

The Preschool children have been practising their numbers and counting by adding teeth to their crocodile …

Firstly they had to count how many teeth the Croc had and then had to see if they could find the correct numbers and stick them in the right order – this worked on their counting in sequence, numeral recognition and matching numeral to quantity.

Without getting their fingers nibbled, the children managed to practice counting and get more familiar with the numerals. Well done Precshoool! Please do point out lots of numbers when out and about with your child, encourage them to tell you which number they think it is!

Flying Start @ Helston’s Love of the Library Continues!

Flying Start @ Helston Visiting The Library

The children at the nursery love to go out for a walk to the library in town, the Babies and Toddlers go regularly to a lovely ‘Bounce and Rhyme’ session, and the Preschool go to enjoy lots of different books… especially when they are learning about specific themes or topics.

After Bounce and Rhyme, the Toddler’s above stopped off to enjoy some new stories. They independently look through the books and ‘read’ the pictures to each other, sharing new ideas about the story book!

We think it is really important at Flying Start to foster a love of reading, if you ever want to borrow books from nursery… you can! Just ask your keyworker.

Flying Start @ Saltash Visit Tamar House

Flying Start @ Saltash Visit Lots of Nannies and Grandads!

The children have visited Tamar House and had a lot of fun with the elderly residents!

They did singing and dancing together, and then the children got to decorate cakes that the residents had kindly made them. Thankyou Tamar House, we love coming to visit!

Flying Start @ Saltash Look High and Low…

Flying Start @ Saltash Searching for Birds!

The children went out to look in the hedgerows for birds, listening carefully they followed the sounds…

They realised that they had to stay really quiet and have their super fast eyes working, to spot them before they quickly flew away!

They took notes of what they saw to help them remember the colours and sizes when they were talking to their friends at nursery.

Flying Start @ Duchy’s Babies In The Garden!

Flying Start @ Duchy’s Babies Love to Be Outside…

Wrapped up warm in their all-in-ones the babies use the nursery garden every day to enjoy fresh air and exploratory play!

The see-saw, balls, and pretend play are firm favourites at the moment in the garden, but we like to change it up and offer different experiences!

If your baby loves to do something in the garden, why not let the team know and they can offer this at nursery too!

Flying Start @ Helston’s Unusual Toothbrush Use…

Flying Start @ Helston’s Toddler Toothbrushes…

Are put to unusual use in a fun painting activity!

The children have been learning all about routines in their day, focusing on teeth cleaning, washing, and bed times. To help develop their fine motor control using a brush they had a go at painting with them!

Brushing, dabbing, prodding and trying circular motions (which was much more tricky!) the children created some wonderful tooth brush art! What a fun way to use a tooth brush!

Flying Start @ Saltash’s Chinese New Year Celebrations!

Flying Start @ Saltash Recognise The Year Of The Pig for Chinese New Year!

The children make pig masks and draw pigs, learning about the special celebration this year in China which focuses on the year of the pig.

Wishing each other a Happy New Year with their pig masks was a little bit funny! But the children enjoyed learning about the focus on the animal and how it changes each year.

Flying Start @ Duchy Celebrate Chinese New Year!

Flying Start @ Duchy’s Diverse Celebrations!

The celebrations spread across lots of areas of learning through lots of different types of play….

From exploring noodles using chop sticks and scissors in their sensory play, trying to master chopsticks using their careful fine motor skills in preschool, dancing to Chinese music with ribbon sticks and then making Spring Rolls for a yummy snack!

Carefully filling the pastry with our noodle, vegetables and bean sprouts that we had mixed up, before our cook baked them in the oven…

And the best bit! Yum yum!

What a busy day! Alongside all of this fun learning, the children learnt about Chinese culture, recognising that different people celebrate different festivals… but actually it can be a lot of fun to join in!

Flying Start @ Helston Celebrate Chinese New Year

Flying Start @ Helston and The Year Of The Pig!

The children across the nursery celebrated Chinese New Year with a variety of craft activities, stories and of course tasting some yummy chinese food at snack time.

The Toddler’s learnt that the animal for this year’s New Year Celebration in China was the pig, after doing lots of pink painting they then made these cards with a little help from their grown up!

Lovely little piggies! The cards were made to wish a Happy New Year to friends!
