The children at Flying Start @ Saltash have been out on lots of exciting trips into their local community this week!

They went on a trip to their local library, where they were read some stories by the librarian, and got to explore all the many story books themselves too!

 

Then, they visited St. Anne’s Residential home, and had great fun playing a game with the residents trying to catch the bubbles!

 

The children love visiting the residential home, doing some colouring altogether, and making friends with the elderly residents! What lovely trips into the local community!

Flying Start @ Duchy Parents Join In With Forest School!
Flying Start @ Duchy continue with their daily forest sessions, as well as inviting pre-school parents and grandparents to join in every Monday!
This week, the children listened to a woodland story as they sat on the logs…
…and then picked an animal each to make a home for!
This meant the children and parents had to work together to carry large sticks, leaves and various objects they could find in the forest, to create the homes!
They were very proud of their end results – and a huge thank you to all the parents and grandparents who joined in!
  
All pre-school parents/grandparents at Flying Start @ Duchy are welcome to come along every Monday from 9.30am – 11am for the forest stay & play session!

Flying Start @ Helston Go On A Pebble Adventure Walk!

The preschool and babies at Flying Start @ Helston went on a special adventure walk…

  

Before they went, they painted some big pebbles that they have been collecting! They did some drawings, and put some messages on them.

 

 

Then they donned their high vis jackets…

 

…and went out on a walk to the local park to hide their pebbles, so that other people can find their hidden treasure and see what lovely art they did!

 

Afterwards, they had great fun playing in the park, and enjoying the fresh air!

Flying Start @ Duchy Fundraise for the Invictus Trust!

Flying Start @ Duchy have spent the week fundraising for the Invictus Trust, which is a local mental health charity in Cornwall. The nursery have done different activities on each day of the week…

On Monday, they guessed how many sweets were in the jar!

On Tuesday, the children dressed up in their pyjamas, and wore them into nursery for the day!

On Wednesday, they did a quiz about the staff, which was very funny!

On Thursday, they did a sponsored toddle out around the grounds!

And on Friday, they held a cake sale!

They also had a colouring competition and a raffle running all week!

Their current fundraising total is an amazing £461, with the cake sale funds yet to be added… wow!

A massive thank you to each and every parent who has joined in and raised money for The Invictus Trust with the nursery!

Nothing says autumn quite like apple crumble… and the children at Flying Start @ Helston made a homemade crumble in cooking club!
After a parent kindly gave the nursery some cooking apples, the pre-school and baby department were inspired!
The pre-schoolers made an apple crumble… they started by carefully cutting up the apples, stirring the mixture, and helping to spoon it into a baking tray! They cut down the amount of sugar and instead added yummy spices like cinnamon to the mixture
Once it was baked and cooled, the children all had some delicious crumble to take home…Yum!
Meanwhile in the toddler department, they’ve been baking low-sugar beetroot and chocolate muffins!

The toddlers helped Stacey pour and mix the mixture and then put the mixture into the muffin cases.

Beetroot was added to cocoa powder to make it a heathier cake but still taste like a yummy treat… and each toddler had a cake to take home to have later!

Flying Start @ Duchy Visit The Honey Fair!

The pre-school children and staff at Flying Start @ Duchy had a great time at the Honey Fair in Callington!

They had a look around the many stalls selling all of the beeswax and honey products…

They they got to see the bees in their special container! The expert lady explained to the children what the bees were doing and how they made the honey, and the children were fascinated!

Then to the children’s delight, they bought a jar of honey to have as a special part of snack when they got back to nursery!

The pre-schoolers all had a lovely time finished off with a play in the park!

Flying Start @ Saltash Enjoy Visit From Waterside Warden!

The children at Flying Start @ Saltash had a very special visit from the Saltash Waterside Warden!

He told the children all about his job, and then they chatted all about the ducks and how they move in the water…

He gave all the children a mini globe, and he pointed out the blue water and the coloured land, so that they knew the difference!

The children had great fun and learned a lot – a huge thanks to the brilliant Saltash Waterside Warden for coming to visit!

Flying Start @ Helston Toddlers Make Rain Shakers!

The toddlers have been exploring lots of activities as part of their jungle week, inspired by the storybook they have been reading: ‘The Magic Train Ride’!

In particular, the children really enjoyed making Jungle themed rainmakers!

The toddlers decorated a tube with glue and different colored paper and when it was dry, they put different dry sensory into it using their pouring skills…

Afterwards the toddlers have been exploring what sounds the rainmakers made by shaking, rolling and tipping the tubes!

 

It looks like everybody is having great fun giving them a shake, shake, shake!

Great work, rain makers!

Flying Start @ Saltash Host Macmillan Coffee Afternoon!

The staff team at Flying Start @ Saltash were delighted to hold a Macmillan Coffee afternoon, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.

Both staff and parents donated delicious cakes which all the adults and children enjoyed tucking into, and then they played some games altogether, and did some colouring in!

Everybody had a lovely time, and raised money for a very worthy cause, the Macmillan charity.

Flying Start @ Duchy Host Forest School Stay & Play for Parents!

Flying Start @ Duchy invited parents, carers, and family members to come along and join in with forest school with the nursery…

Lots of parents and grandparents came along this week, and together everybody put their forest school kit on, and went off on an adventure…

The adults and children all worked together to collect lots of leaves, sticks, pinecones and lots of other natural objects!

They then made pictures with what they had collected!

Afterwards, they played a fun game of hide & seek!

The nursery want to say a big ‘thank you’ to the parents and grandparents who came along to the forest stay and play, and got so stuck in with forest fun!

        

A reminder to all parents, carers, and grandparents, that Flying Start @ Duchy will be holding forest stay and play sessions every Monday from 9.30- 11am if you would like to join in!
