Flying Start @ Saltash Build A Bug Hotel!

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Saltash made a bug hotel after finding lots of worms in their nursery garden!

The children had a think about all the environments the insects and bugs might need…

With the help of the staff, the children sourced lots of plant pots and compost to build their bug hotel…

Then they worked together to build this amazing bug hotel to welcome all the bugs in the nursery garden!

The staff also helped create a lovely table inside the pre-school room to identify lots of outdoor treasure that they found…

Flying Start @ Helston Make Their Own Didgeridoos!

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Helston have been doing some exciting work exploring other cultures…

 

 

 

 

 

…as part of this work they have been learning about Australia, and made their own didgeridoos!

 

 

   

 

In brightly coloured paints, the children painted on lots of dotty patterns, and did some printing and stamping too, to make their didgeridoos look authentic…

And they were very proud of their finished instruments!

 

Don’t they look great!

And of course had a go at making a big noise down the tubes!

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Duchy were recently asked about the sort of activities they would like to do in the forest, for forest school…

One child suggested that they could collect some leaves and then use them for special painting back at nursery!

So the nursery staff made this activity happen, and the children all picked up a big leaf in the forest and brought it back to nursery…

They mixed up autumnal colours for the paint…

And then they got stuck in painting!

Flying Start @ Saltash Visit Local Secondary School & Livestock!

The toddlers at Flying Start @ Satlash went on a very exciting trip to the local secondary school, Saltash.net Community School!

The school have their very own livestock area, where they keep pigs, chickens and goats and several allotments to enhance their learning!

The children were very excited, and they got to meet Willow, Poppy and Timothy the goats…

And then some rabbits, ducks, chickens, and a very noisy cockerel!

The toddlers have also been going out on lots of nature walks, and have got very good at doing up their own coats ready for trips into the community…

Flying Start @ Saltash Enjoy Autumn Sensory Play!

 

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Saltash have been embracing the season of autumn, with some lovely autumn-themed play areas in the nursery!

 

The staff have set up a green-grocers roleplay area, with lots of fresh vegetables… the children have been really enjoying taking it in turns to be the shopkeeper, and weighing their vegetables on the scales!

 

They’ve also been using their magnifying glass to have a close look in their autumn themed sensory tray!

 

 

Filled with lots of different natural objects including autumn leaves and pinecones, the children have loved exploring it for treasure, and looking for bugs…

 

…and they’ve even been learning from their Bug Encyclopedia!

 

 

 

What fantastic autumn-based learning!

The preschool children at Flying Start @ Duchy have been joining in with weekly woodwork sessions!

They have been talking about the different tools and equipment that they use as well as why they have to be careful, and the safety equipment that they need to wear…

And they’ve been making some brilliant finished products… just look at that big smile!

Continuing with the focus for World Mental Health Day on Wednesday, Flying Start @ Helston did a packed day of brilliant activities!
      
The pre-school children did wake up shake up to the ‘happy song’…
Then the pre-schoolers put their aprons on and did painting to different types of music!
Then they had a special circle time talking about feelings, and how they can make themselves feel happy!
 
Meanwhile the toddlers practised their different emotion expressions in the mirror, and discussed feeling using emotion cards…
… And the babies did finger painting to happy music!
 
Wow, what a packed day of brilliant activities for World Mental Health Day!

Flying Start @ Saltash Celebrate World Mental Health Day With Local Care Homes!

For World Mental Health Day, Flying Start @ Saltash went on visits to two local residential homes, St. Annes and Tamar House, to share some joy with the residents!

 

 

At St. Annes, the nursery staff helped run some mindfulness activities for the residents and the children to join in with…

And then they got out the pom poms and the parachute to play some games altogether!

At Tamar house, the children played with the keyboard, and thought about how music can bring joy!

Then they played catch with some balloons, and all did some colouring!

What lovely visits, to mark World Mental Health Day with the youngest and the oldest of their local community!

HELLO YELLOW! Flying Start @ Saltash supported YoungMinds charity for World Mental Health Day, by taking part in their ‘Hello Yellow’ initiative!

 

The children and staff all wore yellow to nursery, and raised some money for this mental health charity!

 

 

  They did a big wake up and shake up, and made a blur of yellow altogether!

A mindfulness wake up routine in the forest? Oh yes! Flying Start @ Duchy kicked off World Mental Health Day with a Mindfulness-themed Wake Up Shake Up!

 

 

 

The pre-schoolers enjoyed being around nature out in the forest, and did a full routine of stretching, leaping, and deep breaths!

 

 

 

Meanwhile, the babies & toddlers did their mindful wake up with lots of stretching and breathing back in the nursery on their mats!

 

What a great way to kick off World Mental Health day…
