Flying Start @ Duchy LOVE Sensory Play!

The babies, toddlers and preschool across the nursery love getting messy and creative in sensory play, whether it is wet, dry, hard, smooth, sandy, floury, dough… it doesn’t matter they always get really stuck in!

Sometimes they use dry sensory to make marks and explore tracing movements, sometimes just to freely explore and feel the different textures… mixing two or three together, and sometimes using sensory play to dig hide and find objects!

Flying Start @ Duchy Explored Paint With Their Bodies!

The preschool children usually are practicing their control and fine motor skills using a brush but for a nice change they have been exploring paints much more freely…

Using their feet first and then their hands!

The children were looking at the shapes their steps made, how it changed with big stomps or gentle tip toes and who has bigger hands or feet…they loved having slippy slimy paint on their toes also!

The children were very excited when Mrs Jenny a local teacher came in to teach them some dancing…

The children copied the shapes Mrs Jenny made, after their warm up and then thoroughly enjoyed using ribbon sticks to music.

Flying Start @ Duchy’s Babbling Babies Session…

The babies do daily communication and language activities called ‘babbling babies’, recently these sessions have been encouraging the babies to explore objects and hear words that are familiar to the object.

The children chose an object out of the box and then explored it, whilst the practitioner encouraged them to hear sounds and words associated, for example when someone chose the ball they heard ‘ball, bounce, bounce boing!’ and were encouraged to make sounds or copy words also!

If you want to do some babbling babies at home just speak to your keyworker and they can give you some activity ideas!

Flying Start @ Helston Had Tesco Make Over Their Garden!

The garden got a spring clean, when Tesco’s Community Team came with several volunteers and some wonderful ideas!

The fence was repainted in Flying Start Blue, the shed has a lovely mural on it, the plants had a tidy up, the sand pit had a refill and they kindly gave the nursery some lovely new garden toys as well!

Throughout the 3 day makeover the children kept the kind helpers topped up with refreshments… even baking them a cake in cooking club, then at the end of the week thanked them with a big round of applause and a lovely thankyou picture…

Flying Start @ Saltash’s Preschool Count and Match in Maths…

The preschool children have done a great job practising their counting recently and extending their learning to recognising numeral and matching them up!

The children have been recognising the number and then building a tower and to match their quantity of bricks to their numeral!

Flying Start @ Saltash Splish Splash Splosh in Their Water Play!

The Toddler Department have been exploring water play recently…

It doesn’t matter if it is coloured water, bubbly water, glittery water or just plain old water… they love to explore it!

This week they have had objects swimming in the water for the children to pick out using big tweezer tongs to help their hand strength and hand eye coordination, they have had pouring and mixing utensils for making potions and of course lots of bubbles for splashing around quickly!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Learn How Their Food Goes From

“Farm to Fork”

The Preschool children visited Tesco to learn about their food’s adventures…

The children learnt about fruit and vegetables, fish and meat… meeting some fresh fish on their journey and looking at the different sizes, colours and talking about the fish they had eaten!

Then because the children have a ‘bakery’ role play at nursery they went to Tesco’s BIG bakery! They met the bakers, looked at a huge variety of what they bake and had a go themselves with some dough.

Finally Tesco’s VERY kindly gave the children some new toys to take back to nursery!

Not only had the children learnt so much from the lovely Tesco Staff they were thrilled with their unexpected gifts!

Flying Start @ Saltash’s Babies Develop Their Love For Books…

Words, pictures, photos, noisy bits and touchy feel parts all help the Babies at Flying Start @ Saltash enjoy and focus on a range of different books.

Books are strongly promoted by staff and often shared together, 1:1 or in small groups but this week the Babies have been exploring and investigating the books more independently. This is really important as they grow and develop their awareness of stories and their love of books!
