Mixing cornflour and water to make gloop, using their hands, wooden spoons, brushes and other utensils to explore the different sensations!

When it settles it looks and feels like a solid but then you can make it runny by mixing it up, the babies had to use some force and speed to mix it up and make it runny!!

The babies have also this week been experimenting with different sizes and textures of sensory such as lentils, dried pasta and dried beans.

They have been concentrating on picking them up, placing them on the paper or sprinkling them onto the sticky glue – practicing lots of different skills through this exploratory play!

Flying Start @ Saltash’s Fruit and Vegetable Shop!

Flying Start @ Saltash Have Set Up A Shop…

The preschool children have been really interested in the story ‘Handa’s Suprise’ where the little girl collects lots of different types of fruits in different quantities.

Following on from this learning they have set up their own Fruit and Vegetable Shop!

Taking on the role of the shop keeper and the shoppers and using scales to weight the different fruit and vegetables, developing language about the weight and buying more or less.

They then used the different fruit to create some observational paintings, focusing on the colours and shapes they could see to paint.

So much learning has stemmed from this one story, and will continue over the next few weeks!

Paddling in warm water to clean off their toes and fingers after, what a lovely way to enjoy creative play and the first signs of Spring!

Flying Start @ Duchy’s AMAZING Writing!

Flying Start @ Duchy have been practicing their writing skills…

The children in preschool have been singing their daily letters and sounds song and are now starting to link the sounds to the letters and using this to write their name!

20160308_154644 20160308_155639

There has been some fantastic letter formation from the older preschool children who are writing clearly recognisable letters! And also some fab emergent writing from the younger children making marks and starting to form letters.

Please continue to encourage this lots at home, spotting letters when out and about and also playing ‘I-Spy With My Little Eye’ using the sounds of the letters is a great way to practice!
