Flying Start @ Duchy Celebrate World Book Day!
The children and staff embraced World Book Day, celebrating their favourite characters, stories and rhymes…
through dressing up!
The children read their favourite stories, role played as their favourite characters and through lots of literacy based activities throughout the day.
Thankyou for all of the children, parent and staff efforts!
Flying Start @ Helston Take Their Roleplay Outside…
They started by visiting the shop and the café inside, ordering their nice hot cup of tea to have with a piece of cake!
Then headed out….
To make mud pies to go with their cups of tea!
DELICIOUS MORNING SNACK HAD BY ALL!
Flying Start @ Duchy have visited the Reptiles!
The children recently visited the reptile house to meet some new friends…
They held lots of different types of insects and reptiles and learnt a little more about what a reptile is and what they need to be looked after properly.
The children were VERY brave!
And felt the insects and reptiles move around on their hands, they felt their shells and skin and described what they could feel and see!
Flying Start @ Helston have been exploring their favourite story characters…
After much discussion, leafing through many books and some important debate the children have been deciding what their favourite stories are and the characters in them!
With World Book Day on the 3rd of March the nursery is sharing the importance of books with all of the children.
The children have created a lovely display by their book corners of the characters they love, including of course The Gruffalo and The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
Flying Start @ Duchy have been practicing their emotions… in a controlled way!
The children have been identifying different emotions, and talking about when and why they might feel a certain way.
They have used photographs and books to identify how others might be feeling, and then looked in the mirror to practice their own!
But since these emotion awareness activities we have spotted lots of our children pulling very expressive faces!!
We feel it is really important to teach the children how to recognise how they feel and how to combat their feelings so that they are aware of their physical and mental well being!
Flying Start @ Helston have started a Building Roleplay this Half Term…
The toddler children have started building using a variety of construction materials from small wooden bricks, to plastic mega blocks, train tracks and larger scale construction in the garden with planks and crates!
Watch this space to see what structures they build… of course in their correct safety gear!
Flying Start @ Penryn have been painting in an unusual way…
The Toddlers have been painting using piping bags!
Following some Creative Arts training the staff have been finding new and interesting ways to promote creative play and to develop skills for mark making, here the Toddlers used piping bags to develop their hand strength and control … squuueeeezing squueeeezing squueeeezing out the paint!
Flying Start @ Penryn have been getting messy in the garden!
The children have been exploring different wet sensory play, like shaving foam, gloop made with cornflour and water, water play with glitter or colour added and of course some slime!
They use their hands to explore and really feel the textures or they use paintbrushes, sponges and sticks to make marks!
The Penryn staff team have recently attended a Creative Arts Workshop so expect to see some exciting creative play going on… dance, music, junk modelling etc!
Flying Start @ Penryn have been digging for Fossils!
The Preschool children have been taking on the job of a palaeontologist recently by exploring real fossils.
Natasha the Manager collected fossils years ago for a Geology course and brought them in for the children to explore.
They hid them in soil and dug for them, exploring the fossils and using magnifying glasses to look even closer! They talked about where they may have come from and made up stories about dinosaur bones!
