Flying Start @ Marjon Explore The Story Of The Hungry Caterpillar!
The theme in the Toddler Room at Flying Start @ Marjon has been all about one of our favourite stories The Hungry Caterpillar!
The children have really enjoyed exploring the story sack, which was filled with the foods from the story, and lots of activities for the children to try out together!
The children also got to try out the foods from the story in a food tasting session which was great fun, and they finished off their theme by looking for caterpillars and butterflies in the garden!
Flying Start @ Marjon’s Emergent Writing…
The babies are always encouraged to make marks, in damp sand, when finger painting or exploring gloop, but recently have been using crayons and pencils to make marks!
The children often make marks showing the signs of emergent writing, lots of straight lines and some circles going round and round… they are always encouraged to do lots and lots of writing!
Flying Start @ Marjon Dressing Up!
The toddler role play has been made into a dressing up corner recently…
The toddlers have got lots of dressing up clothes and outfits and items of clothing that promote multiple cultures.
A display in the area encourages the children to notice and observe similarities and differences that go beyond their immediate family…
Flying Start @ Marjon have been freshening up the garden…
Preparing the compost, watering it and then choosing their seeds to plant.
They will be watering and checking their newly planted seeds for any sproutings during the next few warmer weeks!
Flying Start @ Marjon’s Babies Join In…
The babies have been getting physical first thing in the morning to wake up their minds and bodies ready for a busy day at nursery!
The children use ribbon sticks to encourage them to move and dance to the music…
Watching the ribbons swish, swash, twizzle and twist as they move their arms and bounce to the music!
Flying Start @ Marjon have been finding new ways to make marks…
The toddlers @ Flying Start Marjon have been developing their interest in writing, to do this they have been exploring different ways to make marks!
Using pencils, crayons and paint brushes to go round and round and make circular marks with lots of speed and force!
And attaching pens to the back of cars and watching as the car moves the marks that are left behind!
It is important that we find lots of ways for the children to recognise marks and start to make them themselves developing on to giving meaning to marks that they make.
Flying Start @ Marjon get hands on with a favourite story…
The children have been exploring the themed sensory tray of ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’, using the story as they make their way through the sensory!
The children repeated the refrains as they moved the characters through the soil, grass, hay and water, remembering the key phrases and parts of the story.
What a lovely tactile way to enjoy a story!
Flying Start @ Marjon Build and Stack!
The babies have been building structures with their stacking cups, starting to get them to balance and building them several cups high before…. KNOCKING them over!
The babies freely explore and try them sideways and upside down finding the best way to build the cups up high.
Then some of the children discovered the cups make a great nice being banged together, another way that the children explore new objects!
