Day Nursery 1 @ Cornwall College LOVE a story.

Over the last term we have been introducing the children’s favourite stories into our planning. This has been a great way to support our little ones with their Communication and Language, all whilst keeping them engaged with their love of books!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Preparing for School

The Upper preschool at Cornwall College have been working on key skills we need to know by the time we go to school. This has run alongside our book of the week ‘my first day at school’. We have been working on skills such as our number recognition, fine motor skills and our letters and sounds.

Did you know that Flying Start are Oral Hygiene Champions?!

At Cornwall College, Upper preschool have been having a focus on our oral hygiene and the teaching behind it. Alongside our daily teeth brushing sessions, we have also been exploring different ways we can protect our teeth as well as looking at all the different layers our teeth contain all in aid of dental hygiene month.

As well as exploring the many layers of our teeth, we looked at the different kinds of food that we can eat or avoid to help try and keep our teeth clean. We also practised painting some teeth to help develop the muscles needed in our wrists to ensure that our teeth are cleaned thoroughly.

This week we had a visit from our Registered Dental Nurse at The Big Brush Club who carried out our Quality Assurance Check – She was SO pleased with us that we had NO recommendations and passed with Flying (start) Colours! Huge thank you, as always to the team and Tammy who led the visit and smashed it!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week

Children’s Mental Health Week!
Day Nursery Two at Flying Start Cornwall College have been learning all about their emotions this week for Children’s Mental Health Week! We used play dough to make different emotion faces, while we talked about what makes us happy!
We also looked in the mirror and chatted about how we are all different, and the different words we can use to describe ourselves! We wrote them all down in a big tray and practiced saying kind words to our friends! We also made some blooming wonderful handprint flowers to take home and show our families!

The children at Cornwall College have enjoyed exploring our new sensory room. We have been exploring in the sensory room and have especially enjoyed the touch lights and seeing them change colour. When they changed colour and the music was playing, we had so much fun.

It was a great turn out and everyone has so much fun. We had a Halloween themed snack part way through, in which the children helped make earlier on in the day. We had marshmallow ghosts, pumpkin shaped biscuits, frightening cupcakes and so much more. There was various Halloween activities laid out across the room which everyone got involved in and really enjoyed. We had cauldron painting, a spider web fine motor skill puzzle, and googly eye slime. Thank you for everyone who came!

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Learn About India

This week it was international food day and upper preschool did some food tasting of food from India. We tasted poppadom’s, naan bread and mango chutney. We spoke about the different textures and what the food tasted like. We spoke about India as a country, what the people are like and what food the country is known for. We also compared the different flavours.
We continued this learning on through the week, using our fine motor skills to create our own Indian flag and in a magnificent rice sensory tray that was full of different Indian patterns.
We also looked at different Henna patterns and learnt about what Henna is. This was a lot of fun and we had to focus really hard to try and copy the traditional patterns.
