Flying Start @ Cornwall College Bake Bread

This week Upper Preschool have been doing some baking! We made our own loaf of bread and picked what flavour we wanted it to be. We chose cinnamon flavour, yummy! This activity helped us to work on our gross motor skills as we had to use a big wooden spoon to mix all the mixture together. We used out mathematical knowledge to weigh out how much of each ingredient we needed, and we also ate this bread for our snack. It was delicious! We put it in the bread maker to bake and we were so excited to see what it looked like when it came out.

Flying Start @ Cornwall College Personal, Social and Emotional

This week in Upper Preschool we began looking at our room intention of personal, social and emotional development and the theme of culture and diversity. We began by doing self-portraits whilst practicing our fine motor skills. We had a look at our faces in the mirror and thought about what shapes we needed to draw to construct our face. We then extended our learning and took the activity outside to do large scale art of ourselves. We took it in turn to draw around ourselves on the floor and labelled our body parts and discussed how our body shapes looked different to each other. We then spoke about the different kinds of people that we see in our lives and looked at their similarities and differences. We agreed that everyone is different and that is ok, it is our uniqueness that makes us special. We have also been working on our own personal skills whilst engaging in cooking club this week. We made orange shortbread, and they were delicious!

Flying Start’s Annual Training Day 2024

Flying Start’s annual Staff Training Day was a huge success 🌟

Our day started with a company wide catch up with our 90 staff focusing in on the success of the past year and our focus as a company to be keeping healthy, always learning and more sustainable in the year ahead!

Then we had lots of hands on learning, focused on the age groups the practitioners work with and developing certain parts of our curriculum. It was a very creative day!
Even the Managing Director got stuck in to large outdoor squiggle art!

We enjoyed an amazing lunch from The Spitting Pig, the food was delicious!

Followed by some more afternoon workshops where our teams had time to make resources to take back and use with their key children.

Finishing with our awards ceremony, where we celebrated so many efforts of our incredible Flying Start teams, who we know do such a fab job day in day out!
