Flying Start @ Saltash Bake Jam Tarts!

Flying Start @ Saltash Bake Jam Tarts!

The children at Flying Start @ Saltash have been trying their hand at some pastry making during their Cooking Club!

The children helped to mix the ingredients together to make the pastry, roll and cut it out and place the jam inside!

They talked together about how they need to be clean and safe when cooking and also talked about safety when the food is cooked…

Once they were cooked and cooled, the children got to take home their delicious homemade jam tarts!

Each Friday throughout the holidays, the children at Flying Start @ Duchy have been cooking up different creations to enjoy for their afternoon snack!

This week they made cheese straws… they had to use various skills including weighing out & measuring the ingredients, grating, rolling using their rolling pins, and shaping the straws ready to go into the oven!

Once they had cooked in the oven and cooled, a member of staff served them up for the children to enjoy…

Flying Start @ Helston’s Children Graduate!

Flying Start @ Helston Graduate with a Flying Start to Lifelong Learning!

All children who are going off to big school in September were welcomed into the nursery with their families to celebrate a special graduation ceremony!

First of all, everybody sat down to watch a very special presentation and then each child came up to the front to receive their scroll and medal. Each child wore a graduation hat that they had made.

Each child also received a big tube of bubbles… as they have blown us away this year!

After the ceremony, everybody tucked in to some party food and had a slice of the graduation cake.

Best of luck children, we will miss you!

Flying Start @ Saltash on a Nature Hunt

Flying Start @ Saltash on a Nature Hunt

The Preschool and holiday club have been really busy this week!

We have been on a trip to Tincombe Nature Reserve on a nature hunt. We brought along magnifying glasses and had a list of things that we needed to find.

The children really enjoyed this and we went for a lovely long walk ticking things off as we found them. We then went tree climbing and talked about how to safely climb and the different things that we could see from the trees.

Flying Start @ Duchy Explore Commotion In The Ocean!

Over the summer, the toddlers at Flying Start @ Duchy are focusing on the story book ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ as their learning theme…

Firstly, the children have been reading and exploring the book together…

…before creating their own pictures inspired by the story, using a whole range of different materials!

They have worked really hard on making this fantastic display in the nursery, with a 3D octopus – wow!

Well done toddlers!

Flying Start @ Helston Host A Summer Fete!

Flying Start @ Helston Host A Summer Fete!

Flying Start @ Helston held their very first summer fete last week, and were joined by lots of the parents and families of the nursery!

They had lots of fun games–lucky dip, tombolo, tin cans, guess the name of the teddy bear and guess how many sweets in the jar!

There was also a paddling pool which the children loved splashing around in!

Everyone then tucked into a hot-dog and a slice of cake – great fun had by all!

A big thank you to all the parents & families who came and joined in the fun, and well done to the staff team for organising! The money that was raised is being donated to the Invictus Trust – a local mental health charity.

Flying Start @ Saltash Plant Flowers!

Flying Start @ Saltash Plant Flowers!
At Flying Start @ Saltash, the children have been getting green fingers, and planting flowers for their nursery entrance!

They all worked together to plant the flowers, using their gardening toils, and getting stuck in with lots of soil! They have been talking lots about how to make sure the flowers grow & stay healthy…

Now the flowers take pride of place at the entrance to the nursery, and the children have been enjoying sitting on the bench next to them and reading their books in this pretty & peaceful area!
Great teamwork guys!

Flying Start @ Helston Do Some Yoga!

Flying Start @ Helston Do Some Yoga!
The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Helston have been trying out yoga this week!

The children each found a space where they laid down their gym mat and the staff put some relaxing yoga music on!

Then they had a go at copying poses that were shown to them by Danielle and Liz, with great balancing and movement!

Then the children each came up with their own pose for their friends to try too!

Flying Start @ Saltash Build A Den At A Nature Reserve!

Flying Start @ Saltash Build A Den At A Nature Reserve!
The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Saltash have been going on a weekly trip to Tincombe Nature Reserve!

On their most recent visit, the whole group worked together as a team to build a den! It was hard work but they achieved it and felt very proud of what they had constructed!

After they built the den, they went on a nature collection walk
and searched for natural treasure!
They used all the things they had found to build forest fairies! Their forest fairies are now proudly living in the flower pots in the nursery entrance!
