Flying Start @ Penryn being Policed!

Flying Start @ Penryn have had a visit from the Police!

The preschool children have been learning about keeping safe and who can help us in the local community!

The two Officers brought a big Police Van and showed the children the inside of the van, and talked them through their uniform and special tools they have to carry to help them do their job!

The children were fascinated and even got into the back of the van!

The Police men really helped the preschool children to understand that they can get help from them if they need it, and that they can be recognised by their uniform and the bright colours and markings on their vehicles.

Flying Start @ Duchy’s Developing Independence…

Flying Start @ Duchy have been developing the preschoolers independence at snack time!

The nursery has been focusing on the ‘Health and Self-Care’ strand of learning from the curriculum and this means lots of promoting independence to the children, whether this be our oldest babies trialling drinking their milk at snack with no lids on their cups, toddlers becoming more independent in their toiletting routines or even the preschool children washing up their own snack dishes!

The oldest children have been setting the table and clearing it themselves… why not get them practicing at home?!

Flying Start @ Duchy Are Embracing Autumn!

Flying Start @ Duchy are exploring the changes outside…

The children have been going out and about on their beautiful woodland and farmyard campus to explore the changes in the environment now that we are moving into Autumn!

The children are checking the weather every morning, deciding if they need coats or sun hats (this seems to change quite a lot at the moment!) and then heading out to see if they can find some natural resources such as leaves, twigs, insects etc!

The children and browns up and investigating the changes…lots of brown leaves are starting to appear, so expect to see some beautiful autumnal pictures very soon!

Flying Start @ Duchy’s Shape Sorting Display!

Flying Start @ Duchy are learning their shapes!

The children have a new and interactive shape display, where they can move the shapes around to explore them and learn about them.

The children match the shape to the one on the wall and stick it up, checking that the sides and points match together.

They then talk about what they can see… the triangle looking pointy for example!

When out and about encourage your child to find shapes in the environment… what shape is the cereal box? Or the car wheel?

Flying Start @ Helston Won In The Carnival!

The children and staffed had been working hard on an ‘under the sea’ themed float, and entered into the small float category… and won it!

Well done all involved!

Flying Start @ Penryn’s Planting continued..!

Flying Start @ Penryn’s Garden Project has continued into September!

The staff and children had a big tidy up in the summer holidays, repainting the mural, making the jungle den and doing some tyre planting.

This week the children have been planting lots of seeds…

Using compost to cover the seeds and then carefully water them, the children are growing coriander, basil and mint for some lovely smelling herbs in the garden!

Flying Start @ Penryn have been making the most of lots of green fingers… with a garden project!

With lots of preschoolers and a busy holiday club the children identified the garden as an area they wanted to have an input on, and make some changes to!

So everybody got busy last week!

The children and staff have had a tidy up, been updating the beautiful mural with some brighter colours and even planting some flowers… this time flowers and plants that should stay alive and brightening the garden all year round!

Thankyou to B+Q for some very helpful gardening guidance.. and also for the exciting new ideas for the garden over the next few weeks… Watch this space!

Flying Start @ Duchy Splish and Splash This Summer!

Flying Start @ Duchy really do make the best of the weather…Whatever the weather!

Putting their welly boots and waterproofs on the babies and staff jumped, leapt, splished, splashed and sploshed!

Making lots of fun in the rain…who cares that it is supposed to be Summer when you have this much fun!

Flying Start @ Helston’s Flying Lessons…

Flying Start @ Helston have been learning about flying!

The children had a visit from a Pilot, who explained what is job was and how he did it. The children got to try on his helmet and goggles and zoom around the garden pretending to fly!
