Flying Start @ Duchy’s Round The World Week!

Flying Start @ Duchy have been exploring their ‘Round The World’ theme!

This meant the preschool children and holiday club learnt about places, cultures, foods and traditions from all over the world.

The children took part in cooking club activities such as making pizzas from Italy …

Flying Start’s Outdoor Staff Training!

Flying Start Staff have been training in the woods!

Outside in Tehidy Woods the staff have been focusing their continued professional development on outdoor play and learning opportunities with nature.

training1

They used Andy Goldsworthy inspiration to find natural objects and create art work in his style…

training3 training5 training

The staff discovered how to engage children and develop nature walks and treasure hunts into artistic and expressive play opportunities.

The children can use natural objects to represent and express their imagination!

training2

Then they really got expressive creating forest faces and friends!

The staff suggested activities for the children to represent their emotions, to take mirrors into the forest for expression guidance or to create faces to make up stories about their forest friends… so many ideas!

training6

Finally the staff developed a simple den building idea on a smaller scale to house their animals! The children love to find forest breakfast for furry friends and now can also build animal dens using natural objects!

What ideas do your children like to do in the woods?

Look out for more Forest blog posts with the staff putting their inspiration into children’s activities!

Flying Start@ Duchy in the Reptile House !

Look at these amazing photos of our trip to the reptile house at Duchy College.

The whole nursery went to visit the reptile house in small groups where they saw lizards, snails, tarantulas, snakes, tortoises, fish just to name a few!

The lady explained information about the various creatures and then got some out for the children to touch and hold, some children were very brave!

The children had a fabulous time and cannot wait until they can visit again!

Flying Start @ Penryn’s Seaside Fun Gym Club!

Flying Start @ Penryn have started a new Gym Club Topic of Seaside Fun!

The children take part in a weekly gym club learning about their bodies, the importance of excerise and the changes that happen in their bodies during and after exercise… they do all of this whilst enjoying lots of fun movement, climbing and coordination games based around the beach and the seaside!

These fit and fun activities tie into the holistic healthy living theme the nursery has running throughout all learning.

Recently receiving their sun safe award, having visits from the local greengrocers to be fruit tasters, regularly trips to the beach to explore the natural environment and weekly gym clubs are a great recipe for healthy children!

Flying Start @ Duchy’s Story Time Teepee!

Flying Start @ Duchy have been having stories in a TeePee!

The children were allowed to use a teepee that had been put up by Duchy College, so they took their story books and headed off on an adventure!

They looked around the outside of the teepee before going inside, where they found the giant pole in the middle which held it up!

The children sat around in a circle listening to stories, what an exciting place to visit!
