Flying Start @ Penryn’s Baby Department love their books!
The children have free access to a book case full of books, soft baby books, noisy oct books with push buttons, hard back books, touchy feely books and even story books with their own photographs in!
The babies have a lovely cosy area, with a new canopy to create a more comfortable area that the babies can enjoy either at designated story time or free flow and choice.
Flying Start @ Duchy enjoy musical activities, especially when they are special visitors coming in to enhance their play!
The children enjoyed following puppets, stretching up high, crouching down low and getting lost in the singing and rhythm!
Now… the staff are going to be getting creative and continuing this fun learning and musical exploration!
Flying Start @ Penryn make poppies using card, paper, glitter, paint, pens and pencils!
They used pictures to copy so they could remember what poppies looked like and then recreated their own and held on to them to hold some silence and remember important people.
Flying Start @ Penryn get a visit from the RNLI,
to support their Beach School learning
and further extend their Lifeguard Roleplay in the Preschool Room!
The children and staff dressed up in the full lifeguard support gear!
Feeling the materials of the clothing and deciding it was very waterproof, so that you could go out in really bad weather and in the sea, trying on the lifejackets, buoyancy aids and safety helmets!
The children listened to the reason for wearing the clothing, and understood it was to keep you warm and dry and help you float in the water!
Roger explained how they save people, the boats, lifeguards, helicopters, and support vessels used to help keep people safe.
He presented the nursery with a big RNLI flag and told the children to keep up the good work.. as they impressed him by knowing their safety beach flags and being able to explain who they get help from at the beach and how they know where to find the lifeguards.. they could even show him their giant sand pit, pretend lifeguard hut and dressing up yellow tshirts and red shorts!

Flying Start @ Duchy’s oldest children have been doing regular letters and sounds sessions!
In these sessions the children explore different letters.
They start with the sound of the letter, and practice making the sound with their mouths, listening carefully to then replicate the same sound they heard.
In this session the children then discussed different words that started with the same sound, and drew pictures of these words!
Expect lots of sounding out of words and letters at home!

Flying Start @ Helston have had a very interesting visitor from their local community!
The local Coastguard has come into the preschool department at Flying Start @ Helston to share important information about how to stay safe at sea, the Coastguard role, equipment, protective clothing and how they help people.
Trying on helmets and goggles the children started to really get into the spirit of understanding the important protective equipment the Coastguard must wear (even if dressed up as a princess!)…
And Lizzie really got into the spirit of dressing up!! Dressed in the full coast guard kit, the children could notice reflective strips to help see her in the dark, the bright red colour of her suit and feel the material learning that it is waterproof and very warm for harsh weather conditions!
The children also got to try using the harness equipment, torches and binoculars!

Flying Start @ Penryn have hosted a Stay, Play and Plant session in the baby department for the babies parents, carers and friends.
Grandparents, Uncles, Aunties and Parents were invited in to nursery to join in with soil sensory play, sorting in different size plant pots, carefully scooping using trowels and little spades and of course planting plants!
The family members and visitors to the nursery helped the babies to explore herb plants – smelling the leaves, exploring the colour, height and textures of the plants.
The children with support from their special helpers scooped soil into big pots, and then planted their herbs.
Transporting them outside to their tyre planters.

Flying Start @ Helston have started off the new term with a bang!
With communication clubs such as babbling babies, talking toddlers and letters and sounds the children also suggested the have other clubs focusing on their hobbies or interests.
Now there are weekly cooking clubs, gardening clubs and also gym clubs!
