The Dad’s explored Oats with their children, scooping and filling containers and using descriptive words to describe the texture of them dry and damp… or should I say very sticky!

daddies stay and play3 Then of course the painting table had to be visited! The only problem was we didn’t have Dad sized aprons!

Finally everyone enjoyed some story time together. Thankyou to all visitors to the nursery, the children are always so excited by their family and friends joining them to play, and your input helps evolve the children’s next steps learning and development, Thankyou!

Flying Start @ Penryn and their Growing Competition!

Flying Start @ Penryn have started a growing competition!

This started at the start of the half term, after parent feedback suggested we have more things growing in the garden… which we really liked the sound of.

So we launched a growing competition that started between each departments, but since then has travelled home, in every room and in the garden!

We have planted flower seeds, sunflower seeds, carrot seeds and cress seeds.

The babies have had their Dad’s and Grandad’s in to nursery to plant with them, in a growing themed stay and play, whilst the other departments have been keeping track of their growing by measuring it and recording what they find.

The children water their plants every day and are starting to see the growth!

The sunflower which were planted a while ago at nursery are starting to grow really tall in the garden, but no sightings of yellow petals yet!

And the babies sunflowers are home we are being informed via email updates are growing away (with some very competitive Dad’s using tomato feed!!)!

All in all the growing competition as provided a fantastic learning adventure for the children in all departments, and also showing a caring nature in remembering to water and get sunlight for the plants.

We are now looking to plant aubergines, pumpkins and winter vegetables.. if you can be of any help please please let the nursery know as the staff’s fingers aren’t yet accustomed to the green life!

Flying Start @ Duchy @ the Stoke Climsland Fair!

duchyfair4

Flying Start @ Duchy have recently attended Stoke Climsland Fair!

At the Fair Day, it was beautiful sunshine for everyone to enjoy. There were lots of stalls and Flying Start’s stall was really one to visit, as not only did it have all of the information about their lovely nursery and Forest School, but also play activities to occupy all of the children!

duchyfair3

A black and white area for babies was provided, with a shaded soft and comfortable space on the day! The staff discussed how this is what is offered at nursery for babies, especially under 1’s, therefore providing the parents with the real life play example and their child able to use it!

For toddlers and preschoolers craft activities, singing and role play opportunities were provided all outside in the glorious weather!

It was a fantastic day, and new prospective parents who met us there… we hope to see you at nursery very soon!

Flying Start @ Penryn Are Making Their Own Healthy Foods!

Flying Start @ Penryn have been continuing their healthy living topic, with weekly gym clubs and physical exercise sessions and now developing an awareness of healthy food.

preschool bread make penryn

The preschool children have been experimenting with making their own bread for snack and lunch times. The children have learnt how to make bread from scratch, learning about healthy ingredients and home baking. This cooking club activity also linked in perfectly to the children’s growing theme at nursery, where they are growing lots of plants and flowers…. in baking bread they watched yeast in action and saw their bread grow grow and grow a lot bigger!

Once the bread had grown and doubled in size the children baked it and then enjoyed tasting their produce!

The children have also been enjoying all of the sunshine and getting very hot so decided to use our organic milk to create smoothies and milkshakes.

The children chose fruit to whizz up into a puree and then combine with fresh milk, learning that the fresh milk is healthy and helps our bones go strong and the fruit gives lots of important vitamins. The children enjoyed their icy cool drinks out in the sunshine at snack time!

The children this half term have now explored, growing and how we care for plants to help keep them healthy, exercise and how it helps keep us healthy, now food and drinks and how to make healthy choices and finally will be moving on to sun safety and how to be healthy and safe in this glorious weather! What a lot of fun learning!

Flying Start @ Duchy Roll Around with Paint!

Flying Start @ Duchy have been exploring the rolling motion with their babies and toddlers.

The children chose a ball of paint and added it to a box, they then manouvered the ball around the box by tilting it side to side and forwards and backwards. As they moved the box they could see and hear the ball rolling around!

The magic happened when the children noticed that when the ball rolled inside the box, it made marks on the paper!

What an interesting activity enabling the children to experiment with movement and marks.

Flying Start @ Penryn are getting physical!

Flying Start @ Penryn have been exploring all aspects of a healthy lifestyle!

The toddlers and preschool have been doing a weekly gym club, where they warm up, explore activities such as balance or coordination, do some singing and dancing and then cool down at the end.

As you can see the movements do get quite physical!

The toddlers here are learning how to stretch up high, side to side, crouch down low and even balance on their hands, feet and experimenting with one foot!

The children always have lots of fun during gym club and the time is also used to practice keeping safe – the children risk assess the room before starting and try to minimise any hazards, keeping healthy – lots of discussions about why exercise is good for us, and also exploring the effects exercise has and needing drinks of water afterwards!

Flying Start @ Duchy Stay and Play in the Forest!

Duchyforest1

Flying Start @ Duchy have had an outing all together to the forest, with children, staff, parents and relatives!

The nursery went to the forest to get creative with their friends and family in their beautiful local environment, using the natural resources to enhance their learning!

duchyforest

They visited the stream and collected some water to mix with petals, leaves, twigs and other found objects to create special magic potions! Mixing it all in and casting their magic spells!

DuchyForest3 Duchyforest2

Each family were then given a little animal puppet that they had to go into the forest with and create a home!

As you can see Mums, Dads, Relatives and the Children all got very creative! Using logs, twigs, leaves of different shapes and sizes the families created dens for their animals, keeping them warm safe and dry!

Thankyou to all that cam along and joined in the fun!

Flying Start @ Helston Babies Bounce and Rhyme…

Flying Start @ Helston visit their local library every week with their babies!

The weekly outing provides and opportunity for the babies to get out in the buggy or on reins, get some fresh air on the walk too and from the nursery in their local environment where they can spot different people, shops, vehicles and of course weathers!

The children then do a session in the local Helston library with the librarian using singing and signs and also have some time to explore the library and lots more books than we have at nursery!

Flying Start @ Penryn Seek Approval On The New Prospectus!

Flying Start @ Penryn have received email confirmation and photograph evidence of child and parent approval of the new Flying Start prospectus!

A long standing parent and child customer were used to trial the new prospectus, reading the information and looking at the lovely new pictures that a photographer was commissioned to take throughout the summer and autumn terms of 2013.

DSC_0430

The shape of the prospectus has changed to a landscape booklet, of a high glossy print and lots of information on each nursery and the strong Flying Start ethos of quality care and education for children throughout Cornwall and Plymouth.

As you can see from the picture a true Flying Start child in her uniform with her new bed time reading, a great seal of approval to the staff and external professionals involved in producing our lovely new document! If you haven’t seen and would like to, please ask your manager, leave it on your coffee table and entice a friend to have a read!
