Flying Start @ Marjon’s Love of Reading Starts Young!

Flying Start @ Marjon’s Baby Trip to the Library

The babies enjoyed a trip to the library recently, where they found lots of exciting books to look at!

The children looked at the book shelves themselves, and choose stories to look at. They pointed at pictures and babbled about what they could see!

The babies really loved the giant bean bags, and story time with their friends!

Flying Start @ Marjon’s Loose Parts Play Outdoors…

Flying Start @ Marjon’s Toddlers Explore …

The open ended play with balls, tubes, pine cones and other parts they found in the garden and nursery encouraged the Toddler’s to transport, investigation and explore!

They used the tubes to stack and make towers, before exploring rolling the tubes.

When they added balls into their play, the children started to put them inside the tubes – demonstrating an enveloping schema. They then tried with pine cones and other small objects, exploring how the different items fitted and rolled!

The children then used saucepans and equipment from the mud kitchen to mix, stir and combine.

Play with resources like this is open ended as there is no right or wrong way to play … however we have found it allows the children to be really active and curious in their play!

Flying Start @ Marjon Visit Down House!

Flying Start @ Marjon Sing, Play and Puzzle With Residents At Down House

Visiting the residential home, the children brought great joy and smiles!

Exploring play dough together, doing puzzles and reading stories were the favourite activities of the children with the residents. Then together they joined the children for a sing song with actions!

These visits bring such fun to both children and residents!

Flying Start @ Marjon’s Schema Play

Flying Start @ Marjon’s Toddler Exploration In Their Learning

Schemas are repeated patterns of play which the staff have been supplying opportunities for at Marjon to support the children’s learning.

A posting schema involves children posting objects, this is a current repetitive play often seen in the toddler’s play so the key workers provided specific opportunities to channel this repetition.

Here they were posting fur cones into the pipes watching how they dropped and exploring where they went.

The children then adapted this activity to see if they could see through the pipes, as well as using them as musical instruments.

Great fun had with something as simply as some tubes… why not try using usual house hold items at home for your child to freely explore, just see what their imaginations lead them to do!

Flying Start @ Marjon Babies Explore Heuristic Play!

Flying Start @ Marjon Babies Explore Heuristic Play!

The baby department at Flying Start @ Marjon have been learning and exploring through heuristic play, in their revamped heuristic area of their baby room!

The babies particularly enjoyed transporting the baubles into bowls, rolling them around and sharing them with their friends!

They were all very curious to investigate all of the exciting new treasure baskets too – as you can see from the photos!

What brilliant exploring and discovering!

They’ve had lots of fun playing in the mud kitchen, kicking and throwing the balls, and zipping down the wet slides!

They were especially fascinated by making footprints in the mud, some of the children even rolled around in the wet grass in their puddle suits!

What brilliant rainy fun!

Flying Start @ Marjon Babies Explore Lights through Sensory Play!

Flying Start @ Marjon Babies Explore Lights through Sensory Play!
The baby room at Flying Start @ Marjon has become a twinkly sensory wonderland recently!
The baby department have been joining in with a sensory session weekly… And they have been brightening up the grey days of January by using fairy lights and mirrors for the babies to explore!

The babies have been especially enjoying the sessions where all the main lights are turned off, and they get to explore the light boxes!
This helps stimulate the babies’ brains through new experiences!
What great sensory play and exploration for the babies!

Flying Start @ Marjon Explore Outdoor Mark Making!

Flying Start @ Marjon Explore Outdoor Mark Making!

The children at Flying Start @ Marjon have been doing some very exciting outdoor art, making marks using brightly coloured paints outside in the nursery garden!

The children used a whole variety of tools to make different marks, and different effects!

The children really enjoyed using the funnels, cylinders, and rollers to make exciting shapes, and were encouraged to really show their personalities in their artwork!

What great expression through mark making!
