The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth have been super excited to have their own tadpoles at nursery!
 
They have been learning all about life cycles of animals so seeing a life cycle in action has been so exciting for them!
 
They have been carrying out observation drawings and learning about the habitats tadpoles like to live in and what foods they like to eat to help them grow…
 
The children are very excited to see what happens next!

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth have been going on trips to Trevaskis farm to learn more and see first hand a working farm to match their learning theme!
 
The children looked at lots of different animals, and discussed which foods can come from these animals such as eggs, milk and cheese.
 
They also spent lots of time exploring the fields and poly-tunnels and particularly liked the herb garden!
 
Lastly, the children visited the farm shop and chose some new foods to experience at snack times… they chose goats cheese, pomegranate, purple carrots and spring onions!
And then they headed back to nursery for a taste-test…

The day nursery at Flying Start @ Redruth have all been outside enjoying the lovely weather recently…
 
The bigger children have been busy planting peas to grow on their decking area! They have been using soil and trowels to plant them, and can’t wait to see how they grow…
 
Meanwhile, the babies have also been enjoying snacktime outside in their sunhats on the decking…
…soaking up the aroma of their herb garden – how lovely!
The whole nursery has really been enjoying taking their activities outside, and enjoying fresh air & the lovely weather!

Flying Start Nurseries Sign National Mental Health Manifesto
Today is the beginning of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and Sharon Cowburn, Director of Flying Start Nurseries, proudly signed the ‘Where’s Your Head At’ Manifesto.
 
This is a national document that all businesses are being invited to sign, and it shows a company’s commitment to mental health awareness, and creating a mentally healthy workplace.

The ‘Where’s Your Head At?’ campaign is calling for a working world where mental health is supported and protected. A world where wellbeing is at the heart of all we do, and where businesses have employees trained in Mental Health First Aid.
 
Flying Start Nurseries is proud to have trained their senior management in Mental Health First Aid, and making an ongoing commitment to wellbeing in the workplace.

Flying Start @ Redruth Celebrate Nursery Birthday With Garden Party!
Flying Start @ Redruth celebrated Flying Start’s and Flora’s 26th birthday with a wonderful garden party!
 
 
They had lots of parents and families come to join in the birthday party fun, where they got stuck in with lots of outdoor play & gardening!
They planted radishes and even had a gardener from Kehellend come to help them too!
They made party crowns with flowers, played with herb
play-dough, had a go at hopscotch, did water painting with stems, and cooked lots of creations in their mud kitchen too!
 
After lots of playing, they all got together for a picnic snacktime… and a huge yummy birthday cake with Flora on it!
 
Well done to the Redruth nursery team for organising such a brilliant celebration, and a huge thank you to all the parents and families who came to join in and celebrate with them!

Flying Start Nurseries Celebrates 26 Years!
We are delighted to celebrate that Flying Start Nurseries turns 26 years old today!!🎉
Sharon & Steve Cowburn would like to express a huge thank you to all the staff, families, and children who have been a part of Flying Start over the years, and who join them today in celebrating 26 years!

 
A particularly special mention goes to the amazing staff members who have worked for Flying Start for the whole 26 years, or were original staff who have returned to the company! And also to members of staff who were previously children in the nursery – wow!!
 
Today and throughout this week, the nurseries will be celebrating the nursery anniversary – and the birthday of the little girl in our logo who we call Flora!
 
Here is to many more years of providing a ‘Flying Start to lifelong learning’!

The babies at Flying Start @ Redruth have been exploring transient art this week! This is part of their new theme of spring and nature…
 
They explored a variety of materials including flowers and wooden heuristic objects to create their masterpieces!
And although the weather wasn’t all that spring like, they wrapped up and got outside in nature to work on their wonderful creations!
What a wonderful chance to explore & create!

Flying Start @ Redruth Develop Their Herb Garden!

The pre-school department staff & children at Flying Start @ Redruth have been working really hard developing their outdoor growing areas!

 

The children have been developing lots of skills using different tools by all having a go at weeding a corner area in the garden to turn it into a wild flower garden!

 

This will hopefully attract lots of mini-beasts and birds for them to look for and learn about!

 

They have also been busy establishing their herb garden. The nursery was kindly given some donated herbs and the children were keen to place them into their new homes!

There was lots of discussion about how the all look and smell different and the children are very excited to start using some of these flavours in their bread-making and cooking!

 

An amazing effort in the garden, and what great teamwork too!

Flying Start @ Redruth have been making their own bread from scratch, in their brand new nursery bread-maker machine!
The children have not only learned all the instructions and steps to make the bread and use the machine, but even did a risk assessment with the staff to make sure the process was safe…
 
Look at these brilliant photos of the children mixing up the dough and getting stuck in, and then putting it on to bake – they even remembered to time it when the machine was on!
 
Once it had cooked and cooled, they got to enjoy the delicious fresh bread for their snack time!!
