Flying Start @ Outdoor Painting

Day Nursery have been enjoying the weather this week and have been getting creative outside. They collected natural treasures form the garden to create paintbrushes and marks to create their own masterpieces. They look lovely hung up inside.

Flying Start @ Camborne Make Crumble

The Pre-School and have been having fun with blackberries this week.

We have been on a blackberry hunt and was able to pick so many blackberries. We worked together to ensure we were safe and were not stung by the prickles.

Following this we used the blackberries to make paint, we thought of making a crumble as well as smoothies.

We wrote a list of the ingredients we would need and Redruth Flying Start kindly provided us with some fresh cooking apples. Our crumble was enjoyed as a Friday afternoon treat, which was delicious.

Flying Start @ Camborne School Leavers Graduate

All @ Flying Start Camborne had a wonderful evening celebrating our school leavers at our annual graduation ceremony.

The children all had a chance to receive their special gifts, which included a certificate and medal from their key worker, whilst wearing a graduation gown or sash.

We followed this by a play in the garden with their friends and family and of course enjoyed a delicious picnic and ice cream.

We wish all of our school leavers all the best for school and their life long learning journey.

Flying Start @ Camborne Tea Party

The toddlers have been enjoying the story ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. So, they have been busy hosting their very own tea parties with a variety of sensory materials.

They have been practising their fine motor skills with pouring and cutting, whilst reciting the story. We practised being really careful whilst using the China tea set to help prepare us for using it more often when we transition to the Pre-School room.

Flying Start @ Camborne Have a Special Visit

All the children at Camborne were very excited to have a visit from Devon and Cornwall police.

They brought their van and lots of equipment to show the children and help them understand more about their job.

Their activities included exploring the van, sitting in the front and back and of course the lights and sirens were put on. Some children were brave enough to be hand cuffed and sat in the back, where they pretended to be the ‘baddies’.

Once they had finished outside the police came inside to show the children how they take fingerprints of suspects and the children played dressing up in the uniform.

A huge thank you to both officers, the children were so excited by their learning they spent the afternoon using loose parts to create their own handcuffs to extend their play.

Flying Start @ Camborne Explore Leaves

The Day Nursery have been exploring leaves in our garden. They began with leaf rubbing, before collecting more leaves to create their own leaf pictures.

The children used such lovely language to describe the leaves such as bumpy, spike, big and green. They worked hard on turn taking and sharing their resources.

Flying Start @ Camborne Learn About Transport

The Day Nursery have been enjoying learning about transport this week. They have been using various construction and loose part materials to create their own roads, garages, and small world play areas. We love seeing their imagination come to life and well as their social skills developing.

Flying Start @ Camborne Anatomy

Pre School have been curious about their bodies and how they work. One child asked, ‘why do we have arms and how do they work?’

We made it our mission to find out, starting with our body parts and how each organ helps our body to work and move. They children drew around themselves then started to draw the body parts in the correct places. We discussed what the purpose of each body part was, which was interesting.

We then extended our learning to think about what we would do if some of our body parts got hurt, this led to us all becoming doctors and having a go and adding bandages and plasters to every sore part of the body we could have.

We concluded that 2 arms were best for giving really great cuddles when we needed them!

Flying Start @ Camborne Mud Kitchen

Day Nursery @ Flying Start Camborne have been investigating the mud kitchen, imitating some of the skills they have been practising during our weekly cooking clubs using natural resources found around the garden.

The children were busy pouring, scooping, picking and mixing. It was a fab way to keep cool whilst enjoying the sunshine too.

Flying Start @ Camborne Celebrate World Bee Day

The whole nursery celebrated World Bee Day by spending the day learning all about Bee’s.

Did you know bees have 5 eyes and are particularly drawn to the colour purple because of their eyesight. I wonder what facts your child might tell you.

We all had a go at making our own bumble bees with playdough, painting, and loose parts.

We even had our very own beekeeper come to visit nursery in their protective suit and they even brought some honeycomb to show us.

Lastly, we ended the day by eating some honey sandwiches and honey flapjack.
