Flying Start @ Redruth Pre-School Learn About Hanukkah!
The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth have been learning all about Hanukkah, which is a Jewish festival celebrated in December!
The children learnt all about the story behind the festival, and why people light the ‘Menorah’ candle stick…
And then they created their own by painting onto pictures of Menorahs!
A great way to learn about Hanukkah, and get creative too!
Flying Start @ Redruth Pre-School Explore Winter in Forest School!
The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth have had a great time recently at their weekly forest school… they have been learning all about the woods in the winter, and exploring the changes!
Despite the winter weather, they’ve been putting on their rain suits an d welly boots, and heading out to enjoy forest school regardless!
They went on their own bear hunt, through the squelchy mud, grass, and puddles before making it rain leaves! This got the children interested in where the other animals live so they went looking carefully for other habitats…
And when they returned to nursery, the children got stuck in in making woodland animals such as hedgehogs and then building them burrows!
Such great exploring and learning – well done pre-school!
Flying Start @ Redruth Explore Gruffalo Story!
The day nursery children at Flying Start @ Redruth have been reading the story of the Gruffalo this half term!
They used props to help to re-tell the story, using the pictures as prompts!
Then, they made their very own Gruffalo crumble using apples and rhubarb to enjoy as a yummy afternoon snack…
The children all took a turn stirring up the ingredients, to make the crumble…
The nursery staff took it off to be baked in the oven, and when it was cool, the children tucked in for a special afternoon snack… what a treat!
Flying Start @ Redruth Bake Pumpkin Slices From Their Garden!
The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth have been making their own autumnal pumpkin and ginger slices during cooking club!
They used the pumpkins picked from their very own nursery garden… which they were very excited to pick and wash off ready to bake with!
They then helped mix all the ingredients together with their nursery cook Hannah and make the mixture…
Hannah took it off to be baked and cooled, and then the children got to tuck in to a slice for a special snacktime!
What a delicious autumnal snack, and a great chance to cook using their homegrown vegetables!
Flying Start @ Redruth Day Nursery Do Big Art In The Garden!
The toddlers at Flying Start @ Redruth have been doing some big paint flicking for their “funday Friday” activity of the week!
The children were very excited to go outside with big pieces of paper on the wall…
They had some lovely autumnal colours mixed up, and they experimented with flicking the paint and mark-making like that!
Great work, toddlers!
Flying Start @ Redruth Build Boats in Forest School!
This week at forest school, the pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth, foraged for sticks and twigs to build their own boats!
They used their fine motors skills to thread and tie the string to hold their sticks together…
…and then they found leaves to make sails for the boats, and used pipe cleaners to fold the sails on!
Then they took their boats to a shallow stream in the forest, to have a race!
Their friends cheered them on and they all had wonderful fun – what a great forest session!
Flying Start @ Redruth Day Nursery Do Huge Feet Painting!
At Flying Start @ Redruth, the toddlers do a Friday Funday activity every week!
This week for their Friday-Funday activity, they took their shoes and socks off to make a large scale painting using their footprints!
They covered their bare feet in colourful paints, and did lots of walking and stamping altogether!
They compared their footprint sizes to see who’s feet were bigger or smaller, and found this whole activity quite hilarious!
Flying Start @ Redruth Pre-School Build Ball Runs!
The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth have been out in their nursery garden, as they were motivated to make their own ball runs!
The children worked together as a team, problem solving, and using resources around them to create longer and steeper runs, and comparing whether the balls rolled faster or slower down the runs!
The children did a really good job of problem solving, and exploring, to make their ball runs!
And the children were so proud of the end product that they showed their parents and carers upon collection, and got them to have a go too!
Great work, pre-schoolers!
Flying Start @ Redruth Celebrate World Mental Health Day!
To mark World Mental Health Day, the whole nursery at Flying Start @ Redruth have been exploring emotions, and doing happiness activities!
The toddlers and babies have been exploring feelings and emotions… they did an emotions themed wake-up shake-up where they danced to happy, sad, and angry music! The toddlers especially enjoyed pulling angry faces and stomping to the music!
Then they did a drawing activity with mirrors and blank people so that the children could draw the emotions… And finally, they had a mindfulness session before snacktime, where the children focused on their breathing and made calming sounds to help them relax…
Meanwhile in the pre-sch ool, they created a happiness tree in the corridor for their parents, families and staff to contribute a handprint to for what they are grateful for or something that makes them happy!
The pre-school children also had a lovely relaxing afternoon with lots of group yoga sessions and mindfulness sessions!
They created ‘happy boxes’ for their parents with a little rhyme attached that read
“This is a little box of love, that’s sent to you from me. It doesn’t need unwrapping there is nothing for you to see. It’s full of love and special thoughts for when you’re feeling blue. You only have to hold this box and know that I love you”
