Flying Start @ Redruth Do Clay Pottery!

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth had the exciting opportunity to use a real potters wheel and make their very own clay pot!

They were first shown how the pottery wheel works and how to hold their clay… and then given the chance to have a go at their own…

They used their hands to mould the shape before using tools to learn how to remove it from the plate…

You can see from the pictures how fascinated the children were!

Libby and Shannon kindly offered to take the pots to ‘fire them’ in the kilns which bake the pots and finish them, and the children are excited to paint them once they are fully dry!

A huge thank you to Shannon and Libby for this brilliant session!

Flying Start @ Redruth Pre-School Do Africa Week!

The pre-school department at Flying Start @ Redruth have been learning all about Africa for a week!

Two of the pre-school children lived in Africa for a while and they enjoyed teaching their friends all about what it was like!

They made African tribal head dresses and necklaces using paints and pasta shells as beads!

Then they ate some fruit that grows in Africa, as well as learning all about the animals that live there.

The children were so inspired, that then they decided to make their own factual books about animals of their choices!

Flying Start Managers & Team Leaders Attend Annual Away Day!

 

At Flying Start, we pride ourselves on offering our staff extensive development opportunities. And one of the highlights of the calendar for our Managers and Team Leaders, is our Annual Away Day!

 

 

The Managers and Team Leaders from our nurseries across Cornwall and Plymouth came together for a day themed around ‘Healthy Workplace’.

 

 

 

They took part in a morning of workshop sessions that included developing 5 year forward plans, and innovative training sessions led by the Senior Team.

 

The staff will take their new learning back to their staff, to cascade to all of our nursery teams!

 

 

In the afternoon, it was time to head outside onto the beach and get active in the fresh air – an essential part of the Healthy Workplace initiative! They kicked off with a problem solving activity that demanded communication and lots of teamwork…

 

…And then enjoyed games of rounders and volleyball in teams! There was lots of encouragement, and lots of fun had by all!

 

 

They finished the day with a good old game of Tug Of War!

 

 

A huge thanks to the Senior Team for organising such a brilliant Away Day, and to all our Managers & Team Leaders for attending with such enthusiasm as always!

Flying Start @ Redruth Pick Their Homegrown Onions!

The children at Flying Start @ Redruth have proudly pulled up their huge onions, which they’ve grown from tiny seeds! They’ve been watering and taking care of them, and were so excited to pull them up from the ground!

The children are really looking forward to cooking something delicious with them at nursery!

And they continue to take good care of their lovely garden, watering all their plants!

As a part of their new theme in the pre-school department at Flying Start @ Redruth, the children have been exploring and learning about local artists…

One of the children had recently visited the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and so the staff printed out some photos of the sculptures found at Heligan, and the children were inspired to create si milar sculptures of their own!

Lots of children live near the beach, so the next inspiration came from that, and the children were inspired to make beach pictures!

Flying Start @ Redruth Celebrate Pre-School Graduation!

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth got a lovely send-off, with a full graduation ceremony in the nursery garden, as they head off to big school in September!

The nursery were delighted to welcome lots of families and parents who came along to join in the celebrations – it was a wonderful evening!

 

The children came dressed in their favourite clothes, to be presented with their own graduation certificates and medals, ona  special stage with balloons and bunting celebrating the class of 2018!

Once the ceremony was over the children and families enjoyed a BBQ in the garden,  with the pre-school children playing and saying goodbye to all their friends.

The staff team at Flying Start @ Redruth would like to wish all the children lots of luck in the next stage of their journey of fun and learning!

Flying Start @ Redruth Explore Croatia For The World Cup!

The pre-school department at Flying Start @ Redruth have been busy learning all about Croatia because of the World Cup…

To join in with the World Cup, each of our nurseries have been given a country from the final 8 football teams in a Flying Start sweepstake, to explore the food and culture of!

So the pre-school department started by looking at the flag of Croatia, and then listened to their national anthem!

They then watched some traditional Croatian dance, and recreated it by copying some of the dance moves!

What great World Cup fun!

The toddlers at Flying Start @ Redruth have been making their own rainbow fish!

They have been using all their powers of concentration to precisely stick and glue their  fish’s scales to create beautiful rainbow fish!

Flying Start @ Redruth Bake Bread With Their Homegrown Herbs!

The pre-school children at Flying Start @ Redruth have made their own fresh bread in cooking club, using the herbs from their very own nursery garden!

The children went outside and picked the herbs and smelt them as they went, disusing what they smelt, felt and looked like.

They have been watering and growing their herbs for weeks in the garden and were excited to use some!

As a group they made their own dough, adding all of the ingredients and working hard to knead it, and mix in the herbs!

The nursery nurses helped take it off to the kitchen and bake it…

And later when it was cooled, all the children enjoyed tasting their own creation at snack time!

Flying Start @ Redruth Sail The Seas In Their Pirate Ship!

The day nursery children at Flying Start @ Redruth have been sailing the seven seas in their pirate ship this week!

They have really enjoyed using their imagination to spot mermaids, sharks and fish!

After a lot of hard work sailing the seas and spotting sea creatures, they’ve been jumping into the ocean by enjoying lots of water play to cool down!

What great adventures!
