Flying Start @ Redruth Growing

Pre-School @ Flying Start Redruth have been loving the sunny weather!

It has inspired them to start planting some seeds, developing their fine motor skills using tools and handling teeny tiny seeds.

The children chose to plant carrots, peas and pak choi. We talked about how it was still a bit cold in the mornings and evenings an decided it was best to pop them into the greenhouse to keep warm.

We can’t wait to see them beginning to grow.

Flying Start @ Redruth Red Nose Day

Lots of the children came into nursery excited for Red Nose Day.

Following their interest and love for cooking the children chose to make a vegetable stew for their afternoon snack and added red noses (dumplings) to make it extra delicious.

The children are really enjoying trying new dishes at snack time and their fine motor skills are developing greatly.

Flying Start @ Redruth Chinese New Year

To celebrate Chinese New Year, pre-school have been creating some traditional Chinese dishes! The children really enjoyed cooking a vegetable Chow Mein from scratch and enjoyed it during snack with some prawn crackers! They’ve been having a go at copying some Chinese letters too & thought it was so interesting that their alphabet looked different to ours.

Flying Start @ Redruth Story Telling Week

To celebrate national story telling week, Day Nursery have been demonstrating their love of books! They’ve continue to read one of their favourite books ‘we’re going on a bear hunt’. Reading the book in the garden they re-enacted it & went on their own bear hunt around the garden through the “swishy swashy grass”!

Flying Start @ Redruth Make Gruffalo Crumble

Today we made Gruffalo Crumble for our pudding. Using book as our inspiration we picked fruits to make it look like the big bad mouse’s fiery eyes.
Once we had finished we used our own Gruffalo cave to enjoy tasting the fruits we had put in our crumble and listen to the story.

The recipe was simple and could easily be made at home.

We used
– 1 tin of peaches
– some frozen cherries and blackberries
– flour
– sugar
– butter

We chopped the fruit and placed it in a glass tray.
We mixed the flour, sugar and butter to make a crumble consistency and placed it on top of the fruit.
Hannah popped it in the oven for half an hour.

We would love to know if you try cooking this at home. You could use any yummy fruit as your filling.

Flying Start @ Redruth Cooking Club

This week for cooking club we made some yummy cheese and courgette scones.

The children developed their skills using the graters and looked at measuring liquid in a jug.

We all agreed at snack time that they were yummy and would like to make and eat them again.

The link below is similar to the recipe we used at nursery if you would like to try and make them.
