Flying Start’s annual Staff Training Day was a huge success 🌟

Our day started with a company wide catch up with our 90 staff focusing in on the success of the past year and our focus as a company to be keeping healthy, always learning and more sustainable in the year ahead!

Then we had lots of hands on learning, focused on the age groups the practitioners work with and developing certain parts of our curriculum. It was a very creative day!
Even the Managing Director got stuck in to large outdoor squiggle art!

We enjoyed an amazing lunch from The Spitting Pig, the food was delicious!

Followed by some more afternoon workshops where our teams had time to make resources to take back and use with their key children.

Finishing with our awards ceremony, where we celebrated so many efforts of our incredible Flying Start teams, who we know do such a fab job day in day out!

The day nursery children at Redruth have been having some fun with the Gruffalo story!

 We have been making our own forests with some cabbage leaves and paint and have begun to learn the Makaton signs for our favourite phrases.

Flying Start @ Redruth Celebrate National Storytelling Week

We’ve had a spectacular week at Nursery celebrating National story telling Week!

Throughout the week we’ve had special visitors kindly come in to read us stories and have enjoyed exploring a different story each day.  In Day Nursery the children enjoyed a variety of sensory experiences whilst hunting for their very own bear, just like the story ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’.

On Wednesday we all enjoyed sausage & chips for our lunch, just like in the story ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’.

We’ve had so many different roleplay activities, but our favourite has been acting out ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story & making a cherry pie for our snack! The Pre-School children have even written their own story called ‘Penguins & Pirates’.

We all had a lovely surprise at Nursery… SNOW!

The children (& staff!) were very excited to venture into the garden and explore. The babies and toddlers were very curious investigating the snow and became fascinated looking at the footprints they were creating.

As part of our festivals of light week at nursery we have been talking about all the fireworks that we saw over the weekend! We spoke about what colours we saw and what noises the fireworks made, also how to stay safe around fireworks & sparklers. The children have been recreating the different colours and shapes that were made by the fireworks using loose parts, creating our own fireworks artwork & making our own sparklers to use during wake-up shake-up!

Flying Start @ Redruth School Readiness Journey

On Thursday we had our first School Readiness evening for our September 2024 school leavers! We invited parents in to learn about what being School Ready means and the journey the children have begun.

Our parents got involved with a Healthy Movers session which promotes early literacy skills and dexterity. Parents were able to socialise, ask questions and discuss local school choices.

Flying Start @ Redruth Explore Sunflowers

Today the pre-school children have been investigating our garden! Using the magnifying glasses, we have been on shape hunts as well as looking for minibeasts and different plants.

The children noticed that our giant sunflower had lost all of its petals and were curious about what had happened. We cut the sunflower head and took it into our outdoor classroom to investigate! The children learnt about the life cycle of a sunflower, and we had a go at collecting all the sunflower seeds.

We’re going to save the seeds and plant some more next year!

The babies and toddlers at Redruth having been making the most of the dry weather and took cooking club outside this week. They made some delicious pizza rolls using a variety of herbs from our garden. YUM

We’ve got Royal Mail @ Flying Start Redruth! A few months ago, in celebration of the Royal Coronation our Pre-Schoolers wrote a special letter to the King. In the letter they listed ideas of things the King could do if he was feeling worried, anxious or scared about becoming King. Today we were SO excited to receive a special letter back.
